Celebrate RotJ's upcoming 20th anniversary(list 5 favorite things from SW's final chapter)

In two months it'll be the 20th anniversary of RETURN OF THE JEDI. I know it's not considered the best Star Wars movie, but there's still a lot of great things in it. So if you want to complain and bitch about the things you don't like about it(Ewoks, Boba Fett's death), start your own thread. This is the place to be positive. Here's my top 5 favorite things about JEDI:

1. the end celebration and the appearance of the 3 Jedi ghosts- it's nice to finally see everyone happy, I think this scene will become even more powerful after Episode III

2. Luke vs Vader vs the Emperor- incredible emotion, tension and drama

3. the space battle- the mother of all space battles, personally I love Lando's "Yee-Hah!" at the end of it

4. the sail barge battle- "Chewie, give me the gun. Don't move Lando." - "No wait, I thought you were blind!" - "It's alright. Trust me." - "Just a little higher! Just a little higher!"

5. the Luke and Leia music piece- mature and sad

 

5. Yoda's death and last statements to Luke
4. Jedi ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin at the end
3. Luke and Vader's interaction on the AT-AT after luke was captured
2. Removal of Vader's mask and Vader's last statements
1. Vader's redemption: saving Luke and killing the emporer

ROTJ is probably my least favorite jointly with TPM. However, I still think it is a great film. Here are my top 5 reasons:

5. McDiarmid as Emperor - from then on there was only one Palpatine. What a great performance.

4. Speeder Bike Chase - it showed us that the developments in Special Effects did not just stop at Episode IV. This was probably the main reason the film was awarded a Special Achievment Oscar for Visual Effects, and rightfully so.

3. Without a shadow of a doubt, Mark Hamill's best performance of the trilogy. He is brilliant in the dramatic scenes with Yoda, Leia, Ben and Vader but his acting in the final showdown is top notch. I have always felt Hamill's performance to be extremely underated in this film. He really has shown us someone who has developed and matured so much as a jedi learner and a human being.

2. The 2 death scenes are both equally great. Yoda's last moments and Vader/Luke scene where Vader removes his mask. Perfectly acted and very emotional.

1. Luke's ultimate showdown where he gives in to his anger to beat Vader. Then, at the moment we think Luke has fallen down the same path as his father, he remarks "I am a jedi, like my father before me." Pretty Awesome.

5. The Sail Barge sequence - a masterpiece of editing.
4. Yoda's final scene with Luke.
3. Luke/Vader scene, in the AT-AT connecting chamber.
2. The beautifully spiritual Special Edition ending.
1. Anakin's death scene with Luke.

5) Chewie commandeering (sp?) the AT-ST

4) When the Ewoks think 3PO is a God, then Han says "Why don't you use your divine influence and get us out of this," then 3PO says "It's against my programming to impersonate a diety." That's just funny.

2)Vader and Luke's conversation on the landing platform

1)Anakin killing Palpatine/Ani's death/The 3 Jedi spirits and the final celebration. Pretty much the last 45 minutes of the film.

 

In no particular order:

Vader's Redemption

It's hard to limit it to five. I love Jedi.

1. Vader looking back and forth from Luke to the Emperor in the throne room. Indecision! I yell every time; "Do it! Do it!"

2. Ian McDiarmid's priceless po'd expression after Luke's statement "I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

3. Vader and Luke's conversation on Endor.

4. Luke's maturity. (I couldn't *stand* Luke in ANH or ESB 'cause he was such a brat!)

5. The SE ending music (I'm gonna be a sissy and say I had to wipe away a tear in the theater, that music was so damn beautiful.)

Does it have to be 5? Well, I'll try...

1. Without a doubt when Luke stands up to Palpy and utters that classic line, "You've failed your highness, I am a Jedi, like my father before me." Gives me chills every single time.

2. When Luke enters Jabba's palace against the backdrop of the desert sunlight. You can just feel his power.

3. When Han finds out Luke is Leia's brother.

4. Chewie doing his Tarzan yell...

5. Vader's funeral pyre.

Do you think GL will do a special theater run in honor of the 20th anniversary?

And since there are so many mentions of Leia's bikini, I'll say: Luke in black. Mmm-MMM.
