Celebration 4 - Planning Thread

I was thinking this afternoon... I keep hearing that people are expecting an announcement about C4 to be made soon, most likely sometime this month. And the general speculation seems to be that C4 will take place in May 2007, to coincide with the anniversary.

Putting these two (possible) facts together, it occurs to me that the announce may occur only one year ahead of the con itself. It may even occur slightly less than a year ahead. Now, as far as I know, hotels accept reservations one year in advance, correct?

The possible senario I'm picturing is 1) announcement is made a year or less ahead of the con, when hotels are already taking reservations for that time period, 2) suddenly, there is a mad dash for hotels... except, which one to pick? I mean, our hotel for C3 was so awesome. It would be great to find something that good again for C4.

Basically, I'm wondering if it would be worth it for a couple of us to do a little bit of preliminary hotel research for the locations that have been rumored for C4. That way, if the timetable works out as outlined above, we could both make an informed decision and be able to make reservations quickly. (Assuming that one of the rumors pans out, of course.)

Or, it could be that I'm just way too information-plan-detail-oriented.

Thoughts?

 

Hotel/Transport situation is most likely to be less than ideal I do know that there is going to be some effort to provide shuttle service, but be prepared for sore feet

LFL will make the "official" announcement soon (around the 25th of this month) - stay tuned.

 

Doubt we will go this time. Been to the last three. Looking at buying a new house, plus what I loved about each celebration was that the new movie was coming out. Now it's kinda eh.

Why don't we start calling around to Embassy Suites in the areas we think it might be, see what the rates are, see how many rooms one person can reserve & ask if we can change it if we have the wrong dates????

Yeah, what is this about doing another celebration so quickly - and without a new movie coming out! Lucas apparently doesnt have enough bills stapled to his money jacket. LOL

Plus I cant seem to think of anything that could top my C3 experience. :lol

i really really really wanna go for this one. that means i have to start saving now so i'll bechecking in here every now and then.

But I think SC was the only one who actually got what I was trying to say. Nnay, you led everyone down the wrong fork in the road.

I was trying to say that we should get the ball rolling BEFORE WE KNOW. That was the whole point - if we wait till the location is announced, it'll be too late, there will be a mad dash for hotels and we won't be able to make an informed, deliberate decision in all the chaos. I was suggesting pretty much what SC said, though I hadn't considered actually making the reservations till we had the date and location.

Let's pick... I don't know, the top 3 rumored locations? Pick those, and start looking into the hotel situation. Is there an Embassy Suites well located for the possible convention center? What are their rates? How many suites can one person reserve? Most importantly, do they have the same sweet manager's happy hour deal as the place in Indy? But also, what other hotels are there, and what sorts of deals could they give us?

Then we can either go ahead and make reservations ahead of the announcement, or simply be very ready to make them as soon as the announcement is made.

Make sense?

Speaking of which, do we have a rough headcount at all?

I've looked around the so-called area and it is curious that there are no hotels are available 4/19/07 to 4/23/07, even though there is nothing scheduled in the convention center!
