Dave, with some of the people in this crowd, would you like your own testicles served to you on a platter? o_O

Verity and Phill will probably kill you at the next meeting, you know! :p

Except the Star Wars Factfiles :p
I know a lot of Americans who want those babies.

I am undecided about Harry Potter - I only know it from the films, and those are fine, but I keep feeling Terry Pratchet and Tolkien will be fuming with each new book, since she does borrow lots of the good stuff from them. Having said that, I think the books are doing a gret job keeping kids interested in mythology and magic and cool stuff which would be horribly diluted and forgotten otherwise.

who likes Potter, bring on the dark lord and the Malfoys.

Terry Pratchett and TOlkein get their ideas from other places as well, they didnt invent elves and wizards. THey are just great escapist stories and I can wait to find out the ending

I totally agree with you Vez, there isn't a writer today who won't be in some way influenced by something previous to them. It's just the whole school of Wizards set-up in HP totally reminded me of TP.
But I am starting to like HP (and the sauce), the films anyways, I am not sure if I'll read the books. I am still trying to digest that archaeology book you recommended, it's coming up to Cumbria with me :D

Its a good book isnt it, gives a good alround view of different disciplines. Next time we meet we can have a good indepth conversation of the pro's and cons of dating techniques, from dendro to thermoluminescence!
