I always hear lots about the changes people dislike in the original trilogy but I was curious what of the changes do you actually like because it makes that particular scene better or added to the story or something?

I liked seeing Biggs. The amended victory music is ok.

I kind of thought it was an interesting addition to have the music group in jabbas palace the one with the blue twi'lek. I guess it showed what sort of nice fun that they can have in Jabbas Palace at night.

None. The OT was perfect for me as it was. I will never part with my limited edition original 'original' SW trilogy dvds.

Did 'The Wizard of Oz' need updating? The movie was made in 1939, but for some reason each new generation falls in love with the movie. The OT didn't need any updating as fans would have fell in love with it just like we did in the 70's/80's.

In case you missed it, the question in the original post is actually: What changes to the Original Trilogy do you actually like?

While your defense of the OT is admirable, going from thread to thread and questioning anyone who has a differing opinion isn't necessary... or beneficial... as it derails threads.

I can't stand the Wizard of Oz. The only character in it who didn't need to STFU was Toto.

    Anyway...

    ANH:

    The new Mos Eisley scene
The dewbacks that the stormtroopers rode
And I really don't give a **** when Han fired his blaster

    ESB:

Ian McDiarmid was about 4325 times better than Monkey Holo Woman
Cloud City actually looking like a city in the clouds as opposed to a Target without the red circle logo
    Wampa scene

    ROTJ:

    New sarlaac
Galaxy wide celebrations, although I wish they would have kept the Yub-Nub song as well
No preference on the Anakin ghost

I like putting McDiarmid in the scene, but I don't like them changing the lines.

I like some of the Cloud City stuff. Like the windows and what not.

Generally, I'm not in favor of messing with the films, but those two things I like.

Fair enough. I didn't like any of the changes.

    Apparently Mr. Lucas did. ;)

Despite the changes I listed that I do like, my preference would be to not tinker with the films

Lucas might have cared when Han fired but my movie experience is exactly the same in both scenes. Pretty sure Han could have successfully invoked Stand Your Ground.

    "Sorry about the mess."

I kinda felt as though a lot more "care" was put into what few alterations were made to ESB. I agree about the randomness of the shift in dialogue in the new McDiarmid scene but, overall, I think ESB came out actually enhanced by the process, whereas the other 2 films were given controversial changes that didn't necessarily improve anything. Cloud City looking like a cloud city and the continuity with the actor playing the Emperor are actually enhancements.

I like the Biggs scene and cloud city windows.

But those don't outweigh the crappy changes and I still prefer the OOT.

    ANH:

    - Mos Eisley as a city rather than a tiny settlement
    - new CGI during Death Star battle (that shot of the x-wing formation was instantly iconic for me)

    ESB:

    - opening up cloud city
    - McDiarmid
    - Morrison voice work

    ROTJ:

    - bantha herd
    - flirty Boba
    - younger force ghost
    - new ending theme and celebration shots (the MVP of all updates)

^ Can't really imagine going back to versions that don't include this stuff. Or at least I can't imagine paying a box set price for them. As for the rest, "alert my star destroyer" and Jedi Rocks are the only ones I'm not fond of, and anything not mentioned I have no strong feelings about either way (the new "no" was a complete non-factor for me).

I've never been a huge hater of the changes, maybe that has a lot to do with the fact I never grew up with the originals (but I have seen them). The changes I like the most:

    ANH:
    - Changes to Yavin battle, especially the CGI
    - Mos Eisly expansion
    - Addition of Jabba scene (although the CGI should have been updated for the blu-ray release)

    ESB:
    - Love the change of Ian McDiarmid as the emperor, really adds to the overall continuity of the Saga.
    - Cloud City looks more convincing
    - New voice of Boba Fett, also better for continuity.

    ROTJ:

    - The Sarlacc
    - The cleaning up of the lightsaber effects at the end, great improvement.
    - The celebration shots and the new song
    - Hayden Christensen ghost, again: continuity

I didn't like very much of the additional footage in A New Hope; however, I thought just about every tweak in The Empire Strikes Back worked. I'm basing this on the most recent versions on blu-ray. I haven't watched Return Of The Jedi yet.

I thought the Jabba scene at Mos Eisley in Episode IV was significantly improved from the 1997 theatrical version to the 2004 DVD release, but looking at it again on blu-ray, I just think Jabba needed to be slimier looking. And that sequence where Han steps on his tail to go around him still looks rather clunky.

I liked how they cleaned up the picture, and the "THX and digital sound"

    Everything else? Meh.

I will say this, though: the SE 1997 rerelease did give us the best SW trailers. That ESB/ROTJ one is *classic* Every time I watch that one to til the end I wanna stand up and shout "**** yeah!" :)
