Hey guys. I was wondering if Character Studio has presets for animation. You know like how Poser has preset walking cycles and such. Do you guys know if Character Studio has these presets? I looked in Discreet's website, and they pretty much suck when it comes to describing their software. Anyway, in the re-written ending of The Soft Drink Menace, Jar Jar Binks comes into play. This is involve me character animating for the very first time. Ha ha, it's not much animation as he mostly just stands there and talks. BUT, you guys are going to laugh your heads off and probably cheer at what happens to poor Jar Jar in our film...HA HA HA.

Your gonna make him live??!!! YAY! Pixel thats hilarious, your gonna make Jar Jar live!

Dude...I am not sure what is gonna happen to Jar Jar, but if you don't want anyone to find out, then it wasn't a good idea to put "cheer" in the thing, becasue everyone wants Jar Jar to die. Just putting "laugh" in there would have been enough and would not have been so obvious.

I am sorry, but I am really bored, I am not flaming you or anything. :p But It was something to do.

    grr second post....rats

That gave me a great idea for a movie. But as I can't get hold of a Jar-Jar costume(any pointers) I'll have to wait about a decade till me CG skills can actually aid me in making a CG short.

No... CS does not have that feature. You have to load mocap files. You can however use the footstep mode. You just place these 2D footsteps on the ground and move and rotate them how you like. Then the Biped will be linked to them and follow them through the animation.

So, are motion capture files universal? Or are they program specific? I know there are some motion capture files on DvGarage's website. Will Character Studio read those? Hummmm. I am pondering many possiblities now. And I had forgotten about the footsteps thing. That's a very cool feature. Oh, and C3P0 gets what's coming to him too!! BWWWAAA HA HA HA!

Mmmm, my taste buds they trrremble! Oops, wrong sense.
Sounds like fun. WE need a FFF (Funny Fan Film) :D. I think the Formula will mark a new era of "renaissance" and all those funny fan films will be thought up again!

    PS: Remember the Jar-Jar suit!

Pixel: Hey man, Character Studio does not have preAnimated bipeds as someone b4 said, however it does come with premaid skeletons that behave just like a human/gungan skeleton (what i mean is that if you click and drag the foot it will move the knee acordingly in the right fashion, so animating with those really isn't that hard.)

    Hope this helped.

P.S. can't wait to see your film.

Ahh, Datoolman and Brent have it wrong. When I was using character studio in school in version 3, one of my assignments was to use the motion mixer to mix multiple performance files.

So, yes, Character Studio ships with several hundred performance files, which you can assign to a biped. You can also then apply multiple performances to a single biped, as well as mix them with the motion mixer. You can also do multiple layers of edits to a motion file, which allows you to keyframe and change certain aspects of a preset performance.

    Pixel,
Are you trying to get the character to perform mouth movements?

I found a program last night while surfing called "Mimic" it's from www.lipsinc.com I think.

Mimic was for poser I think but they may have something for 3dsmax...
It seemed pretty nifty, but I didn't stay long on the site..

WRONG ! CS has no 'Preset Motions'. It comes with mocap/biped files that mimic motion. CS has no ability to move a biped on it's own without external files.

He asked if it comes with presets for motion, and IT DOES. You said it didn't. And the files the CS uses are not standard motion capture data, they are proprietary.

No.. it comes with files that you assign to a biped. Read the post and you will see that I was correct in my answer.
