ST Chewbacca in Episode VIII

Kind of surprised Peter hasn't acknowledged this in some way. I hope he's not upset by it all. He's been plenty active on twitter since the announcement but not said anything.

 

No, I have so far succesfully avoided disneywars. No movies and no books. I have read enough spoilers to know the basic story tho

 

From what I heard, Mayhew is in Episode 8 but he is not doing the Han Solo movie which is where the statement and announcement came as a result off.

It's unlikely he will have any part in 9 either, but he does have scenes in 8.

 

Peter has announced he has officially retired as Chewie.

Thank you Peter for everything you've done for all of us.

 

He's done playing Chewbacca.. So that means Chewy is gonna die in VIII?!!!

 

Where was this announcement? Just curious to read it. He's been on Twitter in the last few hours, but I didn't see anything about this there.

Hmm, I'm only seeing Joonas' tweet of the announcement, but not anything tweeted directly by Peter. I'm sure it's official, I was just curious to see him tweet about it as well. Also, I just noticed that Joonas' little bio thing there only mentions the Han Solo movie, not Ep. VIII (but then again, he was already in a lot of Chewie scenes in TFA too).

 

We know for sure Joonas was shooting the Ireland location scenes in TLJ. But I'm assuming Peter still played parts of Chewie in TLJ just like TFA.

 

I don't think he's Chewie in the suit in 8, he was listed as a "Chewbacca consultant". In TFA he was only Chewie in the sitting scenes and some close-ups.

 

How about that new credible rumor that Chewie kills Luke at the beginning of the film.

If it's true that Rey, Luke and Kylo are stranded on Ahch-To like some rumors suggest, what do you guys think this means for Chewie? I can't see him leaving them alone willingly.

I don't feel good writing this, but it wouldn't be such a terrible thing if Chewie died in this one, to add emotional weight. There is still potential to do more with him though.

 

I love Chewie, but don't disagree. As in any film where the beloved dog (or wolf) is killed, the scene will be automatically devastating, and compelling.

His death may also pave the way for the Gigoran Renaissance, which I'm actively promoting.
