ST Chewbacca / Peter Mayhew in Ep. VII

I just thought of something. What if the ROTS Chewie was the real Chewbacca and then another Wookiee comes along, kills him, then steals his bandolier and name to become the nefarioussmuggler we all know?

Anyway, Peter Maythew posted a picture on his twitter of him doing therapy.

 

If so, I hope he has a top hat and a monocle to go with it.

Can Mayhew walk without a cane now? I thought he had knee surgery?

At least that would be a good way of fixing the continuity error in ROTS, of Chewbacca knowing Yoda.

 

Considering he couldn't walk a year ago I think he is doing just fine.

 

Isn't about time Chewie got a medal for helping rescue a Princess (ok she ended up rescuing them), for helping to blow up the 1st Death Star, helping to defend Hoth and finally for helping to blow up the 2nd Death Star!!!

Give Chewbacca a medal!

 

Besides close-ups, I'm guessing he'll have a stand in for most of the film, then?

In A New Hope, Chewbacca was clearly with Han Solo in not trusting Jedi. For example, on the Death Star Chewbacca growled something as Obi-Wan left to shut down the tractor beam. Han then said "you said it Chewie", looked at Luke, and said "where did you dig up that old fossil". If he was friends with Yoda, he would have obviously liked the Jedi, and saw their talents first hand. He would have let Han Solo know about his relationship with the Jedi, and Han would have respected the Jedi. This clearly shows that Chewbacca was never a friend of the Jedi.

Still love the Prequels though.

 

These are fair points to consider. Allow me to point out, though, that we never see Chewie witness any Force wielding by Yoda or any other Jedi. Yoda appears to be serving on Kashyyyk in a purely advisory capacity, not as a warrior. Chewbacca also sees, first hand, the Jedi being crushed by the Separatists.

So, no Force powers witnessed + crushing defeat of Jedi = Chewbacca neither trusts the Jedi to prevail nor believes in Force power manipulation.

 

That's a bit of a stretch. I always took that as Chewie being annoyed by Obi-Wan as a person, not as a Jedi.

 

I never really noticed this before. In terms of plot holes I wouldn't put his anywhere near Obi-wan not knowing the droids.

Or Owen not remembering 3PO.

 

Kenobi worked with several droids in the PT, including both protocol droids and astromechs; in ANH he said he did not remember ever "owning" a droid. In AOTC he expressed the opinion that droids cannot think, so we can probably conclude he dismissed them as being personages worth remembering.

Same with Owen. What reason does he have to think a golden protocol droid (which he recognizes instantly as a protocol droid) is the same entity as a gray one which worked on his farm 25 years ago? Judging by TC-14 in TPM, they all have similar accents and fussy natures.

Obi-Wan's "Come here, my little friend" when he first sees Artoo is almost enough to ease my mind regarding that. He has no reason to express familiarity with Artoo once Luke wakes up.

 

Kenobi may have worked with multiple droids, but did he work with droids owned by Bail Organa that he knew the names of because they were owned by Anakin and Padme? That's what we're talking about with 3PO and R2. Not some random droids from the Jedi temple.

 

But Chewbacca knew Yoda was a Jedi; and was his friend. So the fact that he shares Han's distrust of the Jedi in the OT doesn't make sense. I certainly don't see Chewie keeping Han out of the loop, by pretending to not trust the Jedi.
