ST Chewbacca / Peter Mayhew in Ep. VII

Just to give us a mix of familiar and different, I wish JJ had gone with a fully grey-haired Chewbacca.

 

Chewie was already 200 during the OT. He wouldn't have gone completely grey during the 30 year gap anyhow.

 

I don't really care too much about the lore of it. Would have just made for an interesting visual contrast. Plus, you could easily justify it with some in-universe explanation. Such as "wookies start to go gray in their 220th year" or something. Plus, there are humans who go gray suddenly and quickly, some older and some younger.

Not to mention that Chewbacca's age is never mentioned in the films.

 

Same, since Chewie isn't changing much anyway, it would be nice to see him radically different this time round... oh well. Chewie is always <3

 

Yup. Though I'm really surprised that there seems to be ZERO fan art of an old, grey-haired Chewbacca. I searched and searched and searched...nothing. Anyone want to do a photo shop job?

Well, let's not forget:

I wasn't suggesting that he needs to look very different physically (and Chewie's dad looks veeery different). Just color Chewbacca's hair white and grey, and you have a familiar yet new look.

 

I always thought he should have a topknot. I suppose thirty years isn't much for a wookie.

 

I had thought so too but but making Chewbacca look older implies the intention to retire him at some point.

Maybe Chewbacca is sticking around as the primary alien sidekick. Put another guy in the suit.

Mayhew IS Chewbacca but it isn't impossible, surely, for another performer to learn the characteristics, etc.

I mean, I can't tell Chris Bartlett from Antony Daniels in the suit.

 

Allowing Chewbacca's thread to fall all the way to the third page. And we all call ourselves Star Wars fans.

Yeah; I too would like to see Chewbacca with grey/white fur in the ST. At least half, if not completely grey/white, to fit in with Han's white hair.

 

Sadly seeing Mayhew struggle to walk these days makes me wonder how many scenes were filmed with him in the suit.

 

I have to admit that I would have liked a little more grey in Chewbacca's coat. Not because it's necessary, but just to give an interesting new look to a familiar character.

 

I guess he's still recovering from his knee surgery

 

Agreed, it's okay but could've been much more interesting.

 

Chewie looked weird in the trailer to me but I can't put my finger on it?
