I was wondering, Chewie is 200 years old, but are those wookie or standard years?

    Im very curious,

The galaxy is a big place, with millions of worlds. Chewie wouldn't necessarily know the Skywalker family history.

Skywalker probably isn't a household name until Luke destroyed the Death Star. I doubt many of the general public knew many of the name Skywalker by name until then.

Well, considering Anakin Skywalker had a major role in the Battle of Geonosis, was a capable warrior throughout the Clone Wars, and will presumably have a big effect on the war's final battle in Ep. III, I'm pretty sure some people had heard of him. Doubt they assumed there was any connection between the two, though.

Is 200 years old considered young, middle aged, or old for Wookies?

    Thanks Bib.
Damn, Chewie was kind of young when he died. He still had many good years left in him.

Chewie was probably in his mid-early life span. Wookies do live a very long time.

Why do people say dog years?

Why do people say dog years?

Maybe because Chewie was modeled after Lucas' dog, Indiana?

    no, that was Indiana Jones.

Chewbacca was modeled after his wife.

Actually, no. If you watch some of the earlier Lucas interviews, he said that he often let his dog Indiana ride in the front seat, almost like a copilot. Chewie is very similar to that.

Lucas' dog, Indiana was for both the name Indiana (Jones) and Chewie the inspiration.

Yes, I understand that. But why can't Chewie be 200+ years old? Certain animal species on earth live to be 2-3 hundred years old.

Why does Chewie's age have to be in "dog years"?

Only turtles live to be a couple of hundred years old. And they have a shell Chewie just has hair. You know the only ones as old as Chewbassa are Yoda (c 900) and Threepio and Artoo (112) And they all have shells except Yoda but he is a turtle anyway.

Dog years?! Just because the characyer is based on Gl's dog doesn't require it to age in dog years.
