Was anyone else surprised when Daala was made Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance at the end of the Legacy of the Jedi series?

Was there no one else better suited to the role than a former Imperial Admiral who oversaw the development of some of the most devastating Imperial weapons during her time in the Maw, warlord, leader of the Imperial Remnant, and mercenary leader?

After dealing with Jacen Solo, I'm surprised someone with hard core military background was chosen for the role. There must have been others better suited to take the role of Head of State at the time.

This is the first time I've seen someone say they had a problem with it.

Yes, many were surprised at the choice. Mainly for how bad of a choice it really was. There were plenty of existing characters that could have filled the "anti-Jedi CoS" role quite well. And none of them would've felt shoe-horned into the position "cuz reasons!"

Less surprised, more like... stunned, horrified, mind almost broken from the stupidity of it, that sort of thing. And angry. Either that or it was from the impact my head made from banging it on the table. Well, no, I didn't actually do that, I'm not risking brain damage for this book. So basically surprise, oh, and anger. After all that pain and suffering, losing Mara, Pellaeon, Jacen, heck, even Isolder, and to end like that was really depressing. Well, LotF was ripping off from the prequels, but still, talk about from out of nowhere.

Just when you think them killing Jacen Solo was the most stupid thing, 10 pages later they top that. I would've taken Jar Jar Binks as Chief of State- at least he was never a galactic criminal/warlord. I think Fyor Rodan has also been noted as another choice if they wanted an anti-Jedi Chief of State, but if they used logic like that, we wouldn't have books like LotF and FotJ.

It really is quite brilliant. Bravo to Trip!

Although it does make me a bit depressed that history isn't quite that fun. I mean, it's had its moments, but this just demonstrates that there's still so much room for improvement...

LOTF eroded my faith in so much in Star Wars. I just didn't realize it until now.
The splintering of the Skywalker/Solo family (which I thought was an interesting concept back when the series came out but eroded my faith that the Skywalker's and Solo's could solve anything), Mara's death and not having the truth of that come out until 3 books later, the insane torture and injuries, the fact that they didn't even try to save Jacen in Invincible and Daala being just some of them.
Good things include Alema's arc, Lon Shevu, Jori Lekauf, Cha Niathal and Ben the detective.

Guys, LOTF is like Game of Thrones. It should be a TV series.

I agree, it was a great plot hook for the next series!
