Inspired by Yoda's Bear Clan students' sabers, I made a child sized lightsaber prop. It measures 7.5" in length, and is 1.25" in diameter. This one is made from an old vaccum cleaner tube (steel) with a black PVC grip insert, over a steel tube at the core. The pommel is a Ryobi bump knob (a part for a string trimmer/"weed eater")

    ...thought it was kinda cute...

    Nicely done, Kai.

My little EL bladed "lightdagger" is a good size for a child's hands. It too is 1.25" in diameter and about 10" overall length, which was as short as I could make it and still get all the EL guts battery into it, though the emitter shroud is cut at an angle, so that's an extra 1" that's not really necessary for the EL stuff.

Ah, the old "working lightsaber for Christmas bit"... heh... I'll be sure to give out only non-funcioning ones...

Thanks for all the positive response. I'm tempted to make a child-size Jedi Tunic and Training Helmet and dress up one of my nephews and snap some pics of him with this saber...

Wow, how cute, I love it! I was thinking that my son needs a youngling model lightsaber. He has the Anakin lightsaber (the toy store selection), but the hilt is too big for his 5 year old hand. (not that it stops him from playing with it) The 1-1/4 inch diameter would be perfect. Didn't put it on my '2004 project list', but I was thinking of making one too, one of these days. Thanks for sharing.

    A2 :)
