"Children of Dune" Mini-series.

New "Dune" Mini-Series.

Is anyone else anticipating this as much as I am? I thought the first Dune series on the sci-fi channel was excellent and far better than the David Lynch movie. Children of Dune looks like it will out do both! What do you think?

I can't wait to see this: I've read all of Herbert's Dune books, and own both the Lynch and Sci-Fi film productions.

And, the fact that the actor they cast as Leto II is gorgeous doesn't hurt.

I can't wait for COD. Hopefully they will release the TV cut on DVD soon after the first airing, like they did with DUNE.

Yup, Alice Krige, from Star Trek: First Contact, is the new Lady Jessica.

I personally liked the other actress better. Her name escapes me at the moment.

You know, I hope they re-broadcast the other Dune miniseries again first. It's been so long since I read the books and saw the miniseries I forgot where we are.

And oh my is Leto II hot.

What's the premise of this one? Is this Paul's kid? Or is this Paul?

 

I heard they're going to re-broadcast the whole first series sometime before COD launches.

Leto II is Paul's son, his other child being Leto's twin sister Ghanima (hottie! ).

I'd say more, but the story's way too complicated and I'd be giving out too many spoilers.

Cool...lady Jessica is still around, so where's Paul now? Like I said, it's been soooo long since I read the books that I don't remember what happens. Herbert's books were always confusing.

Children of Dune is actually an amalgam (how's that for a $.50 word? ) of Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.

The first part of the mini-series is about Paul's rule as emperor, and the second part is about how Leto II came into power.

Oh, and ahhhhhhhhh..... Alia.

Paul was emperor for a time, and he had his share of visions, but he didn't lose his sight until late in Dune Messiah. And yes, Duncan Idaho returns in the mini-series as Alia's man-b****, just as in the books.

I've seen the ads for this. It does look very interesting, but I'm just hoping they don't do the one major thing that bothered me and my mom so much in the first - bring in some character and make him/her important when they're hardly mentioned in the book!! They did that with Princess Irulan, and I'm sorry, but she was just hardly in the thing and in the mini-series they made her all important! I wanted to scream whenever she delivered a line!!

But yes, this looks interesting, and of course, they chose good-looking actors and actresses.

 

Yeah, I didn't like seeing Irulan in there as much as she was either, but it was a minor irk.

She doesn't seem to play much of a part in the new series though... then again, she is featured as part of the main cast on scifi.com, so who knows. At the very least, it'll be downplayed.

Are you referring to the Lady Jessica played in the Lynch movie? That was Francesca Annis...if you're not referring to that movie, forget I said anything.

EDIT: I obviously misunderstood the statement...you were referring to the original Sci-Fi Channel series...the Lady Jessica in that one was Saskia Reeves.

 

I too, am excited about the miniseries. I've been waiting for it to come out ever since I got the first on DVD and saw pre-production pictures. I'm even cutting my vaca short to get back to the dorms on time to watch it Sunday night. So far from everything that I've read online, it looks like this miniseries will follow the books pretty closely, however the twins are no longer nine years old but teenagers... The first night will be the second book and the next two nights will be the third book, read that at scifi.com/dune.... Ooh, and I agree with Bithy, McAvoy is hot and it doesn't help that in half the pictures that they have of him on the website he's shirt is off...

Back to the movie... I don't have my books with me up here at Uni, but [this could be spoiler to those who don't know the story].........but who is it the Ghani marries in the end? I forget his name.

 

Oh, yes, I can't wait!

I'm re-reading Dune right now just to get into the "spirit"

 

I'm very excited about it. I loved the original Dune mini series and I can't wait to read teh books now as well.
