These images are being considered for the SFFF t-shirts. The first two are for the back of the shirts. The last three are for the front. Feel free to comment on which front and back you like. I think depending on what is chosen will determine the costs of the shirts, and the more shirts we order, the cheaper each one is. We also asked about baby doll tees for girls and it's a go! I will get an estimate this week and post how much people should bring to the meeting on Saturday. Then my brother or myself will take the design with the most votes to get made and they should be ready by WonderCon. Any suggestions to add or subract are welcome also. For example, for the front, a "TM" at the top left corner and/or a "EST. 2003" at the bottom was considered.

We will stop taking suggestions 7 days from this posting

Couldn't the back say "The Fun Side of the Force"? I like the orange/yellow for the front. The smiley face as the O is funny. The website on the bottom is a nice touch.

Personally, the yellow or red is fine with me for the front. As for the textured red, if it comes out on the silk-screening, then that'll look good I think. Originally, I was thinking of using it on a white background for a business card. I like the website on the back, but I'm still torn on whether the smiley face should be in the "O" or not.

Does anyone think the front logo should be on the upper left chest, or just large on the chest? I like the latter. Also, what does everyone think about the "TM" on the front or having "EST. 2003" at the bottom of the front logo? Maybe yellow without the border?

I was also thinking for the red logo, perhaps a simple graphic of the GG Bridge (three curves and three straight lines) above the letters.

I like the fourth one. It reminds me of the ROTS logo. But why is the perspective the way it is, Wouldn't it make more sense to make the entire font of San Francisco and Fan Force more like the Crawl? It's more pronounced when the bounding box make it look like there is supposed to be perspective and there isn't any. I say fix the city so it is in perspective with the rest of it. Or take San Francisco out of it bounding box. It's like fitting a square in a trancular hole.

The last tone with the texture is okay, but could be a hassle to print on paper, for a banner, and for shirts.

Now is the idea that we are using teh fun side of the force as a tag line or what?

Matt TM implies it is a trademark, and we are not supposed to be making money off of this and do not have much as far as intellectual property is concerned, I think

Actually Robert, the logo was based on the "Battlefront" game font. It was a font that most FF groups hadn't used yet (that I know of). For example, San Diego uses the old ESB style-based logo.

But that doesn't constitute a trademark. Bedides, trademarks have to be registered withthe federal government to. So adding TM would just be pretension.

As for the front, I like it better without the box around it. As a girl it's better to have the design on the whole front rather than a corner. Also, is it just me or is there something a little um interesting having a bunch of girls walking around wearing a shirt that says we are the fun side of the force. lol I agree with Ming about the back design having the smily face in the text. What about adding the website address to that one?

I wasn't referring to the "TM" issue. I was just clarifying the fact about the box around it, and that it was based on Battlefront.

I like #5 and #4. What about having a small logo (republic/rebellion/empire/new republic or original) on the front of the t-shirt in the center (beneth the collar)?? I've seen a lot of tshirts have a design or logo in the center as opposed to a corner, that way if you wear a coat (unbuttoned)you can still see the logo thats on the front of the tshirt. Also, maybe have the EST. 2003 logo on a sleeve?

    just my 2 centavos

Though, I already have a 501st shirt that I'm wearing to Wondercon.

I like the last one, but I agree it might be more difficult/costly to print. If so, either of the other 2 fronts are cool. It would be cool to tilt the text like the opening crawls, has that been done before? A larger logo across the front is better I think. I also like the smiley incorporated into the text for the back of the shirt.

    Fun stuff!

I like the Red Logo on black the best. The last one looks too busy to me and makes the font harder to read in my opinion. But I always lean toward clean classic designs. Also, if you are going to shrink this down to being small on the side of the chest, the texture effects will probably not work out well (again, too busy for a small logo and makes the font hard to read). Same thing goes for making this small enough for business cards.

Thinking forward to busniness cards - the Gold on white may not show up as well as red on white. But there isn't anything that says the color on the cards has to be the same as the logo on the shirt.

A good way to experiment with all of this is to take the logo, shrink it down to the size it would be on a busniess card (or small logo on a shirt), print it out and then see what you think of it. Does it still hold up?

Not that my word is final or I've been to an expensive design school, but I did learn a thing or two in my typography and graphic design classes.

As for the back of the shirt, I like the idea of the 2nd pic with the smiley face used for the "O". I also think making it shorter is better.

    The Fun Side
    Of The Force

    or

    Fun Side
    Of The Force.

I also think it would be cool to add in smaller font size below that "sffanforce.com" like on the first image.

I don't know about adding TM. Technically, isn't that for registered trade marks? We have not registered this as a trade mark.

I understand adding stuff to the sleeeves gets more costly, but I like the idea of adding an establish date on one of the sleeves. I kind of don't think it's needed on the front or back of the shirt. Gets away from the clean look of the logo I like!

I'm OK either way with the front of the shirt having the logo extend across the front, or being small and to one side. However, I'm kind of torn about the front and the back competing for attention. It's like one needs to be the focal point.

    Just my 2 cents.

Most important to me is Logo #4 over #5 :)

    Ack,

    I had 2 more ideas.

Since the logo is based on this logo:

    http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swbattlefront/

Why not (as I think Robert Mentioned) keep the font for "Fan Force" consistent? I'd have to look for that font name, it looks kind of like a regular Century Gothic or Arial Condensed or something?

Secondly, if people are wanting effect and texture I think the subtle gradient highlights used on the original battlefront logo are cool! It wold look nice for a large version of the logo, and if the logo was used on a business card it could be a simplified version with a solid fill rather than the gradient highlight.

    - Kay Dee

P.S. If these ideas make things too difficult don't worry about it. But if it sounds appealing let me know and I can lend a hand since I've got Adobe Illustrator.

That's it Kath. Actually a gradient look would be more effective than texture if the logo were small like on a busines card.

I like the Fourth Design. It would also look good in the neon green that was used for the original Lucasfilm logo. And neon colors stand out more than red...

Have you considered other customized T-shirt places? I don't have experience with them but here are a few I found just using google (and you can get black T's)

    http://www.designashirt.com/product.asp

10 day turnaround with free shipping.

Ah - nevermind. I just ran a test and the cheapest girls shirt with printing on both sides would be like 42.00 each.

This place had girls t's for about 28 dollars with printing on both sides. http://www.spreadshirt.com/ They use digital transfer overlay... not sure what that's all about.

Anyone know another cheap place that will give us black t-shirts? Otherwise are we going to go with white?

Per Matt's request I've created a rough logo with the idea mentioned above. I've used 2 colors, but with the gradient fill I think lighter colors like yellow work best against the black.

Keep in mind this is not fine tuned (type was not kerned evenly. I didn't take time to do the edge effect exactly like the battlefront logo - but I can probably fine tune that too. Just didn't want to waste hours and hours on it unless it goes to print.)

I'm still fine with the font Erick used - just throwing this idea out too.
