I love Christmas songs of every flavor and sort, except for the very depressing ones. Call me cheesy, but I even sing them while I'm at work, during Christmas that is, which provides many comments from my co-workers, but I can bear the ribbing I sometimes get.

I thought it'd be groovy to start a Christmas song thread to see what everyone likes to hear during Christmas.

Call me sentimental, but my grandfather always loved The Little Drummer Boy and so do I.

    Other favorites would be...

    Sleigh Ride
    White Christmas
    What Child Is This
Do You Hear What I Hear
    Jingle Bell Rock
I Want A Hippopatamus For Christmas

And let's not forget that all time Christmas favorite...
Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer

What are some of everyone else's favorites?

    Carol of the Bells
    O Holy Night
    Silent Night
    God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
    Chipmunk's Christmas Song

The list could just go on and on.

THERE is one and only one amazing Christmas song and here it is.........

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
    Only a Hippopotamus will do
    Don?t wanna a doll
    No dinky-tinker toy
    I want a hippopotamus
    To play with and enjoy
I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
I don?t think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
    He won?t have to use
    A dirty chimney flue
Just bring him threw the front door
That?s the easiest thing to do
I can see me now on Christmas morning
    Creeping down the stairs
Oh, a joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a Hippo-Hero standing there
I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
    Only a Hippopotamus will do
    No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
    I only like Hippopotamuses
    And Hippopotamuses like me too
Mom says a Hippo will eat me up, but then
Teacher says a Hippo is a vegetarian
There?s lots of room for him
    In our two car garage
I?d feed him there, and wash him there, and give him his massage
I can see me now on Christmas morning
    Creeping down the stairs
Oh, a joy and what surprise
When I open up my eyes
To see a Hippo-Hero standing there
I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
    Only a Hippopotamus will do
    No crocodiles, no rhinoceroseses
    I only like Hippopotamuseses
    And Hippopotamuses like me too

While most of the traditional X-Mas songs are nice...I've got a couple favorites:

"What do you get a Wookiee for Christmas?"

"My only wish (this Year)" - Britney Spears (Platinum Christmas)

"Posada (Pilgramage to Bethlehem)" - Santana (Platinum Christmas)

I work at the mall so I hear Christmas music like 4 months out of the year so I get a little sick of Christmas music....I still like the traditional religious stuff deep down inside somewhere, but I tend to be a little synical about Christmas music because I do get so sick of it.

One song that I have found that I can get into is Carol of the Bells performed by Metallica along with some orchestra...

What can you get a Wookie for Christmas
When he already owns a comb
What can you get in a hurry for a furry kind of friend like that
    To take home

Oh, he doesn't need a tie clip
And he doesn't use shaving foam
So what can you get a Wookie for Christmas
When he already owns a comb
    (Spoken:) It's really a problem

What can you get a Wookie for Christmas
when he already owns a comb
What can you get in a hurry for a furry kind of friend like that
    To take home
    No, He'll never wear galoshes
Or a hat upon his furry dome
So what can you get a Wookie for Christmas
When he already owns a comb

Let's give him love and understanding
    Good will to men
We wrap it all up in bright colored ribbon
And we give it to him all over again
And that's what you get a Wookie for Christmas
When he already owns a comb.

That's what you get in a hurry for a furry kind of friend like that
    To take home
'Cause he doesn't need a tie clip
And he doesn't need shaving foam
So that's what you get a Wookie for Christmas
When he already has a comb
When he already owns a comb!

Here you go Neil!! :) :)

    Artist: Muppets
Song Title: Ebenezer Scrooge (From A Muppets Christmas Carol)

When a cold wind blows it chills you,
    Chills you to the bone
But there's nothin' in nature that freezes your heart
    Like He and bein' alone
    Its pinks you with indifference,
Like a lady pinks with rouge
And the worst of the worst,
    The most hated and cursed
Is the one that we call Scrooge
    Un kind as any,
    And the wrath of many,
    This is Ebenezer Scrooge
    OH! There goes Mr. Humbug,
    There goes mister grim
If they gave a prize for bein' mean
    The winner would be him
Old Scrooge, he loves his money
Cause he thinks it gives him power
If he became a flavor, you can bet he would be sour
(Even the vegetables don't like him!)
    There goes mister stingy
    There goes mister greed
Hes the undisputed master of the under-handed deed
He charges folks a fortune for his dark and drafty houses
As poor folk live in misery
    Its even worse for mouses
(Please sir, I want some cheese)
    He must be so lonely
    He must be so sad
He goes to extremes to convince us hes bad
Hes really a victem of fear and of fright
Look close and there must be a sweet man inside
    Nah! Uh-Uh!
    There goes mister outrage,
    There goes mister sneer
Hes got no time for friends or fun
    His anger makes that clear
Don't ask him for a favor cause his nastiness increases
No crust of bread for those in need
    No cheeses for us mices
(Gonzo/Charles Dickens: Scrooge liked the cold
He was hard and sharp as a flint
    Secret and self contained
    As solitary as an oyster)
Oh! There goes mister heartless, there goes mister cruel
    He never gives
    He only takes
    Yes, thats his only rule
    If being means
    Away of life
    He practiced and Rehearsed
And all that work is payin' off
    Cause Scrooge is getting worse
    Everyday in everyway
    Scrooge is getting worse!

Ludo, somewhere in the apartment, buried in the recesses of a box somewhere, I actually have the sheet music for What Can You Get A Wookie... and R2-D2, We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Somewhere...

Favorite Christmas cartoon? Um... That would have to be Charlie Brown Christmas or Rudolph.

Favorite version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol... Scrooge with Albert Finney. It is a musical, but Finney plays Scrooge as the most odious and despicable man ever. A holiday classic.

My personal favorites are "Carol of the Bells" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, "I Want a Hippopotumus for Christmas," and "The Chipmunk Song." "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" has never really been a favorite of mine. It's basically because when I was younger, I heard the song and I thought that my grandmother had really gotten run over by a reindeer. I cried and only stopped when my mother took me to see my grandmother, just to show me that it was just a song, and hadn't really happened. Tramatized me for life.

How did I forget about Trans-Siberian Orchestra, saw them in concert...it was one of the best shows I've seen!

Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24) is one of my favorite all-time songs! I even did a music video to it, for my Kent State sports show...end of the season highlights reel.

    Sounds like a cute cd!

    Music: Marc-Antoine Charpentier
Words: Traditional Provençal, translated to French by Émile Blémont, 1901

Bring a torch Jeanette Isabella(in french)

    Vénès leou vieira la Pieoucelle
    (Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella)

Chut! chut! chut! Il dort à merveille,
Chut! chut! chut! voyez comme il dort!

    Doucement, dans l'étable close,
    Doucement, venez Jésus est charment!
Comme Il est blanc! Comme Il est rose!
Do! do! do! que l'Enfant reposse!
Do! do! do! qu'il rit en dormant!

When Sweetie Pie and I were looking at Christmas CD's last night, I saw that song listed. I'd never even heard of it before.

Would it be a bother to con you into translating the song? I'd like know. :)

    Anything for you John! :)

    Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella
    Traditional French

    Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabella
Bring a torch, to the cradle run!
    It is Jesus good folk of the villiage;
    Christ is born and Mary's calling;
Ah! ah! beautiful is the mother
Ah! ah! beautiful is her son!

It is wrong when the Child is sleeping
    It is wrong to talk so loud;
Silence, all, as you gather around.
Lest your noise should waken Jesus.
Hush! hush! see how fast he sleeps!

    Hasten now, good folk of the villafe;
Hasten now the Christ Child to see.
    You will find him asleep in the manger;
    Quietly come and whisper softly,
Hush! hush! Peacefully now he sleeps.

    Softly to the little stable.
    Softly in a moment come;
Look and see how charming is Jesus
how he is white, his cheeks are rosey!
    Hush! hush! see how the child is sleeping;
Hush! hush! see how he smiles in his dreams.
