Yeah, I loved it! :) EON really should've gone with that Radiohead song instead of the Sam Smith one used, but it's great to hear it accompanying this - and it really got my attention. We think of SW title sequences as an aspect of the movies that's "set-in-stone," so it's just really interesting to me to see the effect a different directorial sensibility might have. It was great to see that hyper-stylized, glossy approach applied to Star Wars imagery.

I loved the way it recapped and reminded you of the end of ANH with the trench run, and gave you an idea of Luke's journey up until that point, and of what might come. Also, Vader's face and helmet turning, the tiny snowspeeder circumnavigating its surface... that gave me chills!

I'm confused. Isn't this film being shot digitally using 6K?

But KK first said Arri Alexa 65, but then Ultra Panavison 70.

    Nope. Digital.

The camera is an Alexa 65, the lenses are 70. At least that is my understanding.

I totally believe you on this but where was this reported or did they show the camera on the teaser? I am not Tech enough to be able to tell from seeing the Camera?

It's been widely reported. A quick google search will bring up multiple articles.

Edit: I'm actually wondering if the trailer was cropped. 70mm would normally have an even wider aspect ratio.

Fraser is a genius. Anyone who doesn't realize that BOTH film and digital can be terrific are simply not being open minded. Glad KK is giving the filmmakers she's hired the choice which is rare this day and age.

Also I'm very relieved these new Star Wars movies have retained their cinematic credibility. Can you imagine if they were shot like some of the generic MCU movies? That'd be a nightmare and this is coming from a fan of the MCU.

I think most people don't realize that digital is the norm now.

Amen on the MCU criticism. There's something incredibly uncinematic about a lot of them. And Whedon's offerings are certainly no exception.

Not saying they don't have quality acting and characterization. Just that the artistry in them is sparse, and when it's there, it seems to be an afterthought.

Ehhhh... you can though. Don't take one throw away fact from one site, but when you aggregate it all, and it all says the same thing, you can believe it.

One of my favorite images from the trailer. I'm really excited to find out more about this scene and especially the planet they're on. Looks quite interesting.

There's a very Central Asian vibe to this place, including in the scene with Donnie Yen (particularly the extras in the background).

This is from the reel released at Celebration. I'm not 100% certain if this is just a really pretty BTS shot or a still from the film, but either way it's gorgeous enough to share again.

Hope it's a shot from the film. Beautiful.

I think that's Galen Erso in the background, as his hair, and the canteen/ whatever it is on his belt, seems to be the same as in the photo below.
