    Nice connection with Vader in ESB at the table, and Sidious in TPM, Tokio. :)

    Well, Qui Gon a father figure in any case, is not incidental.

    Meanwhile, I mentioned, Cliegg in particular (although has to do with AOTC really) because Anakin relates his feelings about the Tuskens as "animals" connected with Cliegg's "...like men, but mindless monsters". Anakin clings to so many influences, IMO. So much skills but understandably can't control his emotions, although he does try.

    Something I just thought of:
    This scene kind of mirrors the Dining Scene in TESB. Maul stands on the left to Sidious like Boba does with Vader.

    Yes, it's almost if Cliegg sets an example, again in the classical sense, and the son, looking up to this higher person, follows.

    'Anakin clings to so many influences'

    Especially from...the 'fathers', yes, Qui-Gonn, Cliegg(good catch!)Obi-Wan, and Palpatine.

    The father is within the mythical approach mostly seen as a methaphor for the reason itself. It is the greater 'why' opposed to the mother, symbolising the body, the emotion, the action, which the reason needs to put thought into action.

    'So much skills but understandably can't control his emotions'

    It is clear Anakin suffers from not having a true father. It seems to me his path is all about finding his own responsability, his own Reason, the hard way.

    Back to topic: Will someone post a new image? :)

    Overhere! :)

    Why do I get this sense Coruscant looks at its best in TPM? You can feel the enormous depth of it in this shot, much more than in say the speeder chase in AOTC.

    As for substance , the sun placed a very distinctive dark shadow on the landingplatform, and guess who's standing on it? You betcha!

    The two recently posted shots are both very nice. Obviously the look of "The Phantom Menace" is softer than the other films in the saga, perhaps to help convey a deliberate aesthetic divide between Episodes 4-6, and the more romantic look of the prequels. There needs to be a sense of visual opposition which, in addition to the dramatic dichotomy, communicates a friction in tone that compliments the respective and conflicting dramatic arcs of the trilogies. I find that "Phantom" has a deeper, more luxurious feel to its cinematography, but that its sequel, "Attack of the Clones", has more richly and classically composed frames, which lend themselves to the operatic feel of that film. The contrast is interesting, and likewise enables the films to have a sense of visual development - that is, of course, a matter completely removed from the more delicate nature of the CGI models and mattes, etc.

    Strilo's image is notable for its depth and detail - in this shot, as well as many others, we are fully able to appreciate the expansive detail of Coruscant, as it is exposed in all of its (daylight) majesty. As Seijun Suzuki has previously mentioned, the "clarity" of this POV shot makes an interesting juxtaposition with the succeeding images, including a close shot of one Senator Palpatine. The contrast between shadow and light is also very subtle and effective.

    thejeditraitor's shot is also quite elegant in its detail. I like the opposition of geometry in the shot, which tends to throw the viewer off-balance; the catwalks are deliberately positioned at different angles to give not only the perception of physical depth, but to further suggest shakiness and instability, as though are heroes are not entirely safe. As MatthewZ has stated, the architecture here seems to anticipate the slightly more minimalist designs employed in the OT. The light sources in this shot are specifically overexposed, something which helps to offset any suspect matting or digital compositing, as well as containing yet another comparative detail to the OT's more subdued light sources.

    That shot of Corsucant was always one of my favorites. It almost gave me vertigo in the theater.

    This thread is far too interesting to disappear into obscurity. Therefore, here are some more shots:

    Perhaps the most impressive filmic reveal of recent years?

    [image=http://img205.exs.cx/img205/4941/pdvd0013ri.png]

    A beautiful, but foreboding exterior shot.

    [image=http://img205.exs.cx/img205/5679/pdvd0002kn.png]

    "Which was destroyed? The master or the apprentice?"

    [image=http://img240.exs.cx/img240/1995/pdvd0056yi.png]

    Please discuss these images at your leisure. I shall continue to post screen caps every day or two, should there be enough interest. My comments detailing the above images will follow shortly.

    My favorite shot is of thejeditraitor image posted above but I have to say that the best lit scene is during Qui Gon's funeral.

    I also like the lighting of Obiwan's corronation with Yoda.

    TPM is just plain and simple, beautiful to look at.

    The Maul shot is "borrowed" from Nosferatu with equal chilling effect

    Posting images in this thread is fine, but I ask that you only post one image per post. And let's give the thread a few days for discussion before another pic goes up.

    I didn't catch it..........just remembered somebody else who did.

    Tyrannus the Hutt seems to be the new master of the visual homages. He's pulled some obscure ones out of his a$$ recently.

    Okay Tyranus (keep up the good posts btw!), where to start? First things first, so about the Maul entrance shot:

    I remember Rick saying about the day when they shot this scene there was a weird electrical vibe on stage, and to me, the shots of this scene, especially this one and the next, the close up, have this absorbing feel to them, it litterally takes your breath away.

    Nice connection with ESB as well (vader-dinnertable).

    It is shot as a complete still, which makes it much more powerfull then a dolly or pan shot; It's a statement shot: The sith have returned.
