Was looking through a gallery of behind the scenes images from the Original Trilogy and came across this picture:

The only reason I can think of for rigging up this kind of light source is if they were going to cover up the actor in post with some kind of glowing creature, and therefore wanted the area around it to be realistically lit.

Does anyone have any information about what that creature might be or what is going on in this photo?

If there's a better place in the forums to post this in let me know and I'll move it.

    Thanks!

That could be, but if you look at the reflection on C3P0, it doesn't really match the lighting in the scene.

Here's a neat picture from The Making of ROTJ that I don't recall ever seeing anyone comment on: at some point technicians on set at Elstree Studios in England produced a model of the Emperor's lava lair, as practice for building the full-size set.

It fell to Richard Marquand, arriving at the studio with Lawrence Kasdan's script, to tell them this particular construction job was no longer necessary due to plot changes.

(Do feel free to correct me if someone's already posted this!)

    Here's the Dignitary images re-uploaded:

With pleasure :) Everybody: be sure to save copies of these- they disappeared almost too quickly when first uploaded...

This is also a good test for some of us to perform: add these to the relevant Dignitary articles and see what happens from there. Whatever results should be very instructive...

    Those dignitaries are elusive :)

Great picture thanks for posting, I didn't realise they got so far with the lava lair idea. And theres something that you won't see in a workplace again............ workers lighting cigarettes [face_not_talking]

Here are some BTS photos of the aliens put in for the special edition of ANH. A lot of people thought they were CGI, but as you can see they are puppets. Actually it is one puppet. The larger photo is the same one as the one in the smaller photo just they used both sides of the head for each one.

No it isn't. That is the same one just with the other end of his head being used.

Presumably Ford has in mind his famous comment to GL, to the effect that Lucas could "type" his dialogue, "but we can't say it!" :p

Not at all. He's praising Lucas in the interview; he's saying that unlike the niche Sci-Fi tales of the past, Star Wars is primarily a fantasy about people, their desires and their relationships. That's what made ANH so immediately accessible to anybody. You don't have to like spaceships or robots to get swept away by a story of a farmboy seeking meaning who gets sucked into a grand adventure.
