I just wonder what Anthony Daniels is doing with is bathrobe on in the first one...

 

I was wondering about that too. My theory is that he had the C-3PO black bodysuit on and wanted to keep it clean while waiting to put on the gold armor.

 

Yeah, that's an idea.

 

I'm inclined to think it was for modesty, rather than cleanliness - the skintight bodysuit probably didn't leave much to the imagination.

Wow. Oh wow! I want to run around and play in those pictures. I would jump in that landspeeder so fast. They'd have to pry me off of the Falcon's ramp. I'd be manning a Death Star cannon mouthing laser sounds- all of that, and I'm a 35 year old man!!!

 

I'm so geeked that I can't find the right adjective...

Yes. I got so excited, I forgot to say a big, huge THANK YOU!!! This is beyond amazing. You've even got a pic of GL doing his thing. What a window into history. Incredible to think that it was considered such a throwaway 'just another movie' project back then. Look at the caption 'on the set of the new science fiction film...' Even more incredible is the amount of access your friend had! The only comparison I can think of is being allowed to wander the set of Wizard of Oz or Godfather without restriction and without foreknowledge of just how iconic this would be- can you imagine? Being in black and white just adds to the feel of these pics being a true historical document- it indeed is.

This recent eBay auction showed what may be a one-of-a-kind item: a Laserdisc from Lucasfilm's EditDroid system, which contains raw footage from Return of the Jedi (multiple takes from Yoda's hut). As you can see, the auction has ended, but fear not - this footage will not be lost. It's been acquired by Adywan of Star Wars Revisited fame, and I believe he intends to generously share its content, as well as possibly use some of its content in his own project. And that's pretty cool, considering the outrageous asking price.

Obviously, this wasn't meant to be seen by the public. Obviously, others exist, but are probably still within the realms of Lucasfilm. There was also an EditDroid-related torrent on thepiratebay, but I'm pretty sure I can't link to that.

 

Wow. If that can make its way into the public realm, that'd be fantastic.

The auction says it's rushes of Luke & Yoda on Dagobah, but how cool would it be if there was some of Luke & Obi-Wan on Dagobah? A few deleted lines about a volcano duel, perhaps...

It's odd that the blurb calls EditDroid a flop - it was one of the first non-linear systems ever developed, LFL sold it to the company that became Avid & the rest is history. My old boss actually remembers using it back in the 1980s.

Torrent links and the like aren't permitted, but keep us posted if there's any sort of news.

I'm surprised by all the attention it's gotten from the media: there's articles by Yahoo! and Huffington Post to name a few. I didn't expect it to take off this far (considering it's only alternate/extended scenes), but I'm really happy for Charlie and how generous he's been with the community. Even though we're still expecting the last minutes of footage, he's already revealed plans to remaster the footage and upload it in its entirety on YouTube. What a guy.
