The good news...Jurassic Park is coming back to theatres next year to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The bad news? You probably guessed....It's going to be converted into 3D.

Dear Steven Spielberg....Ridley Scott and Fox didn't need 3D when they re-released Alien in 2003.

Why, a movie being re-released in 3D? The horror! How will the culture survive?

    Los Angeles Lakers: Drama, guaranteed.

Shush you, before they get the idea you want to see Marlon Brando's fat crazy cult-leader ass in 3D.

    Laura Dern in 3-D?

    Okay maybe perhaps....

(I developed a crush on her when the film was released, which led to me getting her Kenner Jurassic Park action figure and a Topps JP trading card with her on it.)

Because 3D conversions of live action film (especially those with darkened scenes and environments) generally have poor quality.

Clash of the Titans, Thor, Alice in Wonderland, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows being prime examples.

When you compare those conversions to movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Hugo, which were actually shot with 3D cameras, the difference is noticeable.

Having 3D cameras on set do lead to one annoying trend: the "DUDE! We totally got a 3D camera here!" shots.

Everybody knows that the only good film Laura Dern ever did, was Wild at Heart.

Actually the best movie she ever did was "Blue Velvet" but she's not the reason to see it.

Natch, as Blue Velvet is all about Dennis Hopper.

"What kind of beer do you drink?"

    "H-Heineken..."

I remember thinking, back when it came out, that Jurassic Park would be awesome in 3D. Think we might get a sitter for this one!

I would rather see it in 2D, but I'm just glad to finally be able to see one of my favorite films in theatres. Though it annoys me that this just helps the trend of things coming back to theatres in 3D. I think they'd have the same number of people seeing them if they were in 2D, but they make more money off of 3D. Also, I think they genuinely believe people go to see it for the 3D when I think with classic films it's mostly just the thrill of seeing them on the big screen.

It's true they look better that way, but they're also more expensive to shoot in 3D than to convert most of the time. Because when you shoot in 3D it goes insanely slow. Like 1, maybe 2 shots a day. Every day of filming on a big show like that is tens of thousands of dollars. Which is why usually they just pay far less to convert it later and let it look like crap. (Though Jackson's method for shooting The Hobbit might make it faster and could possibly be used more widely.)

God, I was just talking about Blue Velvet with someone the other day, but it's been ages since I've watched it. I'd totally forgotten that she was in that. Still, the opening of Wild at Heart rules, as does that movie as a whole, being Lynch's version of Wizard of Oz.

Also, Ramza quoted the best ****ing line from Blue Velvet

Meh, saw it in the cinema last year when it was released in Digital HD prior to the Blu Ray coming out. I doubt 3D will add anything to it.
