I was raised in a "remote control" family, but I think I prefer "clicker."

    You guys?

I thought "clicker" was an old person thing because when they were younger the buttons "clicked."

That's kind of what I thought, as the only people I've known who called it a clicker were my grandmother and great-grandmother.

My grandfather, by contrast, prefers "damn remote." Never just remote, mind you.

Well, the buttons should click again, dammit!

    Make remote controls great again!

Where's the option for "get your @$$ off the couch and turn the rotary dial and adjust the tin foil on the rabbit ears while you're over there"?

Dammit, Sarge, you stole my comment. :p

Actually in my house it's the remote, usually preceded by "Where the hell is..."

We used to be in awe of American TV shows when they showed remote controls, in the seventies and early eighties. Took ages before we got 'em, too. Like 1987 or something.

See? America was great when remote controls were great.

If remote controls were great in the past, it was in spite of people like Donald Trump, not because of them.

Wait, I think I might have gotten something mixed up there.

    Remote.

But I mean, Don Draper's using one in Mad Men which makes me think; if you wanted to win the Cold War so much, why didn't you share this technology with your allies?

We couldn't trust anyone else with the technology. The Reds would have gotten their hands on it and would have found the super-secret countermeasure-- putting literally anything between the remote and the television. We would have lost the Cold War.

*clicker, because it was the early 1960s.

But otherwise, a very valid point.

This is the best remote ever, except it no longer works with all of this digital rubbish.

Whew. I was sure Ender would come in here and bite all our heads off for saying "remote".

    Growing up it was "Paul!"

Now it's the remote or the tv app.

you know when kids first start talking, and they mispronounce words, and you never want them to learn what the actual word is because their version sounds so cute. my kid calls it a ramone.

    he's 28

Between the two options, it was mainly a remote.

Also, don't know if this is just a Canadian thing, but any Canadians ever refer to it as a "converter"?
