You can't try to game the system against Lucas.

And now the system has changed and Lucas is gone.

I think Maul should have crossed his arms as he was falling down the shaft on Naboo to make it clear that it was no big deal to him.

I think Maul should have been on his speeder bike chasing Anakin on Tatooine as Anakin rode to Maul's music.

I think Maul should have been a tiny speck in the background as Anakin and Padme were getting married. Like, if you zoomed in, Maul was there, standing on the other side of the lake with his arms crossed.

That's how he should have appeared in ROTS, as specks in the background. During the attack on the Temple, during Anakin's cry face scenes on Mustafar, as Sidious shows up to save Vader, the sunset at the end...

Maul is always there, in the background, looking menacing.

Isn't that what Old Wounds established was going on?

Well yeah, if you just didn't dig something there's not much that can be done. For me, though, it was enough to know that Palpatine was in the background pulling these guys' strings. The villains themselves just served as colorful characters who provided action setpieces, which every Star Wars movie needs. And I didn't think Dooku was any less substantial than Tarkin. Neither character had much depth or longevity across films, but in both cases they were played by talented actors who made up for those shortfalls.

Don't worry, I didn't catch it until a few days ago when all this Moriband business sparked a brain connection. Not consciously, at least.

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know when it's going to come half off.

    Didn't stop people from trying.

"The Sith Lord on Naboo - the Zabrak who killed Qui-Gon -"

Mace shrugged. "Destroyed. As you know."

I'm guessing he'll still be dead before Episode III.

And they never should have tried to pretend like the Jedi didn't know Maul's name. That was a conceit that was just begging to be contradicted eventually.

I wanted a Special Edition of TPM to kill Maul just like in the video game - by Obi-Wan "Force Pushing" him into the bottomless pit within the first five seconds of battle, and Maul mysteriously cut in half as he falls.

My only regret about not having played TOR is that my hypothetical Sith Warrior, "Ryddick Ulassh" has yet to see the light of day.

Killed off in that comic, you mean?

I hope he survives to fight Luke in the ST.

I can make this a reality.

What is he: Human, pureblood, Chiss, Zabrak?

Maybe Luke could fight a solid-state hologram powered by **~MAUL'S BRAIN~**

    obvi the best resurrection story

Edit: BTW I don't think Maul even necessarily needs to die in the TCW comic adaptation. He was ruler of Mandalore and then some guy comes in and wrecks him and Savage and they find Savage's corpse and some dead Mandalorians. Maybe they'll think Dooku took him out.

He doesn't have to die. But unless they plan on continuing his story, I think there should be some kind of closure. We've put up with him coming back*, so I think we've at least earned a conclusion.

    *Well, some of us.

I'm just saying even if he survives TCW, it's not beyond belief that the Jedi think that he was killed.

    I didn't :(

The ROTS novel was written before Maul was brought back, so of course it reflects the pre-TCW canon position that he had been killed in TPM.

But George Lucas changed his mind! Are we just going to let him get away with that?

That's the last straw. It's off to the punitentiary with you.

    Yes, but everyone was stupid.

"That's such a great what-if story! They should make that what-if story canon, because that's the only way to recognize story goodness!"

    YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT.

That everyone wanted Old Wounds to be canon is a perfect example of the double standard I was referring to. If the EU does it, everyone loves; if TCW or the movies do it, everyone hates it.

Not exactly. I'm pretty sure that most of the people who furiously hated TCW's decision to bring back Maul would have been equally livid if Old Wounds or any other story had been the source to canonically do it. And in actuality, there were and probably still are people who hate(d) Old Wounds for doing just that, whether it was considered canon or not. On the other hand, many of the people who did enjoy Old Wounds were just as amenable to TCW's handling of Maul's return, if a little bummed out that Old Wounds itself was now seemingly bound to the non-canon pile forever while TCW ran with its idea.

There may be examples of a double standard, but I don't really think the resurrection of Maul is going to be one of them. The divide between the lovers and the haters is really caused by whether people think it was a good idea to do at all, not what medium the decision was made in.

I loved Old Wounds but hate the TCW take on it mainly because of Savage and the Nightsister connections. Old Wounds felt epic and felt right. The TCW run feels like fan fiction.

EDIT: No offense to fanfic writers.

Old Wounds was great, regardless of what TCW does.

    Resurrection was better.

    There, I said it.
