Much new has come up about the new cartoon shorts. I thought I might start up a discussion about the topic.

I'll start by asking you this:

What do you think of the fact that the voices of the characters arn't actually done by the same actors that played them in the movies? Aside from C3PO, the voice actors are completly different.

    Here's the list:
    Anakin Skywalker: Mat Lucas
    Obi-Wan Kenobi: James Arnold Taylor
    Yoda: Tom Kane
    Supreme Chancellor Palpatine: Nick Jameson
    C-3PO: Anthony Daniels
    Asajj Ventress: Grey Delisle

    What do you think?

    But do they sound similar?

This is nothing new - how often do actors do their character voices for cartoons? Rarely, if ever, esp for a series cartoon.

Anthony Daniels - Threepio is his life, if he doesn't do it, what else would he do.

Well according to this the only thing he has done that I have heard of, that isn't Star Wars was the 1978 Lord of the Rings movie. Apparently he voiced Legolas. Oh and he was in an episode of the YOung Indiana Jones chronicles.

I have a very important question about the cartoon:

Are we going to get it here in Canada??

I've been offline for awhile, so I haven't heard anything...

Thus far I haven't heard about us getting it here. I suppose eventually either Teletoon or YTV will pick it up.

Well, for Lord of the Rings, everything to do with the characters was so detailed. The actors voices were used for the video game, which I found so amazing.

I just don't understand why Star Wars shouldn't try and do that for the Cartoons, especially if they're so short.

I suppose Kenny Baker would be short enough for TEssa but he would have little to do voicing R2. I mean he only whirrs every few seconds, and they can rip that off from the movies. ;)

Hm, some of these people voiced SW characters in some of the SW games.

ie Grey Delisle played Amidala in the Phantom Menace game. Ditto for Nice Jameson and Palpatine. Tom Kane played Threepio (among many others), and Mat Lucas and James Arnold Taylor also ring a bell from those games.

(btw, I would hardly consider not casting the real actors to be "gay")

Grrr. Don't play off my words! :p

This is just such a short cartoon series. It seemed important to Lucas, so I don't see why he wouldn't stress to have the actual actors doing the voices.

It's not common yes, yet it would have made them all the more better.

Yeah but they would have had to pay more to get the movie actors to reprise their roles than they would have to hire professional voice actors. Plus, it depends if the movie actors would have been available to do the recording at the time in the production schedule when they were needed.

Plus there also raises the questions of how good the real voice actors are. For any that saw the holiday special the voice acting for some of the characters was terrrible, for the breif cartoon they had, making me convinced that sometimes actors just can't do voice acting. It is almost its own vein of acting. Though I find it ironic that one of the original actors would make a career out of doing voice acting, when people found it difficult to cast Luke Skywlaker. YAY Joker and Hobgoblin!!!
