Ok, in the first chapter of Clone Wars, we see the Clone Troopers kick some serious butt. They are competent, daring, precise, and get the job done that they are sent to do.

By the time these troopers morph into the Stormtroopers we all know and love from the OT, they are incompetent, easily killed, and couldn't hit the backside of a planet with a BB gun!

What's the deal? Is it just that by ANH, the Empire is still using the same clones and they are just to physically old to do the job?

What are your thoughts on this.

This has been beaten to death in the movie threads so many times it's not even funny...and the argument really belongs there.

Anyway, the answer is simple. With the exception of when the Stormtroopers are shooting directly at our heroes they actually seem to do their jobs pretty well.

They stormed the Tantive IV effectively...then destroyed the Rebel base on Hoth without too much problem...on Endor they were a bit sloppy at points, but they were fighting against a rather unorthodox enemy, and overall they still fought well.

The reason they can't seem to hit Luke, Leia, or the rest is quite simple...if they did, the story would be over.

    Yub yub!

thats tru nomatter how good your enemy is they just can seem to hit or hurt your main hero of the movie of series. like in episode 21 of cartoon networks the clone wars, the gunship easily destroys 30 or more super battle driods and the commandos look like they could own a whole battialion. But when they both shoot at GG they miss every shot. which is y i think all producers and animators for starwars including GL (just a little) have in there mind that jedi and sith and GG are superior to all other army men and that they cant be killed or even hurt unless it has to do with the story line of them losing there hand (anikin and luke) or unless they arnt main characters (all the jedi that u dont get names for unless u look it up)

and also that the clones died and now recruits from planets not clone soldiers are stormtroopers makes them less effiective soldiers

    (hand cramp)ow!

    >>>The reason they can't seem to hit Luke, Leia, or the rest is quite simple...if they did, the story would be over.<<<

"Well thank you very much! Chewie, take the professor here and plug him into the hyperdrive!"

Sure, can't kill the heros! But at least make it a bit more plausible. Scorch some clothes, part the hair, maybe even a leg wound everyonce in a while!

And by the way, this is a good forum to discuss this, even though it does have more to do with the OT. The Clone Wars cartoon is the first time that we have really gotten to see the Troops in action. It seems that the actions of the original batch of clones that fought for the Old Republic are not consistent with those of the ones that fight for the Empire. What could be the reason for this? As I said before, are they older? Are they even the same (the EU books and comics indicate the Empire uses conscripts and recruits, but never mentions clones)? Or is it possible that their degredation in discipline and training is the manifestation of the different governmental styles between the Old Republic and the Empire?

They may be rusty you know with the Empire being the Galatic Superpower,or the Cloning doesn`t go as well, and genetic information gets lost

What's the deal? Is it just that by ANH, the Empire is still using the same clones and they are just to physically old to do the job?

Well the Clones have to age,I`d imagine they`d clone new batches every so often, but they want to get as much out of a clone as possible

What are your thoughts on this.

You make a good point with the Jango DNA,Jango would have been dead for a good 20 so years by ANH,I doubt the cloning would go as smooth with the lost genetic information,in the AOTC novel,Taun We tells Jango the orignal source of blood is allways the best so...

In the books such as The Cestus Deception and Republic Commando, it says that the lifespan of a clone is roughly 24 years, due to the accelerated growth process. By the time Episode 4, 5, 6 come out, the original "trained to be soldiers and nothing else, to follow orders and behave with military precision at all times" clones would have all been dead, and the empire would have been using regular humans by that time. They would have made mistakes and been more "human" than the original clones, since they were just people in an army, not bred to be soldiers.

They did manage to shot leia in ROTJ, fry Arto in ROTJ, kill 3P0 in ESB, and it wasnt a trooper- but Luke got shot in the hand.

So it has been know to happen. From time to time.

    Oh dear, oh dear.

Clone troopers only live 24 years? (I don't read much of the expanded universe before ANH). Boy, ain't that crap! Live your whole life just to fight and you kick out after only 24 years? Sounds like some rednecks I know!

NOTE - Before you get mad at that last statement, I AM from the south, so i'm saying this tongue and cheek! o_O
