We will be getting an announcement next year for sure. The market is increasingly indicating that a new range of consoles is going to be on the way soon, and I don't include the Wii U in that.

Most people say they hope for consoles to move towards being PC like, which i'd hate i like being able to play games without upgrading my system. I really hope thats not the new path

It could happen. It would help get rid of the concept of a console that becomes obsolete. But that would only really work if the process was simplified, simply so that technophobes who worry about damaging their system wouldn't have to worry. Otherwise you might as well just get a PC.

Well i mean its to the point where i like buying a console and just being able to not worry about having to update it which is why i game on consoles more then i use my lap top. Consoles are very much a one time buy and being pretty steady in life spans usually that one time investment is enough while on PC you have to update fairly regularly, so thats normally why i don't mind the graphics being less, (not somthing i really care about since 360s graphics are pretty dang good anyways)

Well the counter argument to that would be that you would still be able to play games on lesser settings, just like on a PC. It would just free up the industry to keep up with technology and allow for developers to work with the latest tools, all while still making as much money as possible from all possible gaming platforms.

I think that wouldn't work, mostly cause you can only go down just so low because eventually with PC till you can't run games without it looking like crap. I love the fact that i dont have to worry about my game running badly just because im on a lower power system them someone who continually upgrades their system. I love the fact that with my console i can play games from when the system came out to the latest release without having to worry that i cant always afford an upgrade which is why again i game Console because i love being able to plug and play

Well many people believe that console games look crap compared to a game developed properly for PC anyway. Just compare, for example, Crysis on console and on PC. Same game, huge difference.

But it's all moot, I don't think Microsoft or Sony would be willing to alienate their user bases with a continuous stream of accessories. Same as I don't think either will do the much rumored locking out of pre-owned titles, as that would only serve to give the competing company an additional feature to advertise their console with. I think what we're going to get is the same as this gen, an entertainment hub that plays movies, games and acts as a social center that connects to a home entertainment system. It's just going to have more processing power.

I agree, i can live with games not looking amazing i love story more then looks. I'm one of the people they'd alienate if they did that i wouldn't find gaming worth it anymore i like being very causal with my system. Though i do plat TF2, Portal 2, Empire at War and allot of Indie games on my PC :) stuff that my lap top can handle

Personally I think the concept of the PC style console will all depend on the success or failure of the Ouya. If that does well, with the ability to let owners mod the insides and containing its own development kit, I think not next gen but the generation after could see the rise of PC style consoles. Until then I think Microsoft and Sony will see it as too much risk.

Yeah maybe, well we have to hit the roof on graphics sooner or later i mean they already look great how much more can we truly do with graphics alone

    I'm baaack. :p

I agree, to me story > graphics. The more of both, however, the better.
I would like a console with ability to play both the high end games, and then also play some lower end older games.

Well i mostly like consoles or how easy they are to just sit down and play, though again i game on my lap top with some older games and even Portal 2 and TF2 along with a random assortment of indie games. But when its time to replace this machine i plan to shoot a little higher up the chain for gaming reasons. RTS games cant be beat on the PC which is what i enjoy the most

    Yippie!

Just got a call from work telling me to fill in for one of the full-timers for the rest of the week on top of my usual shifts, because he broke his jaw......with a cricket ball.

Well, that's an extra grand or so in the bank for me this week.
