There's a link to this story on the main page of TF.N, but it doesn't actually direct you to the story. Anyone have a working link to the story on TF.N?

I'm sure Connie's interviewing style was more insulting to the fans than to the general public. The CNN special could not have hurt the hype, although I wish they'd shown that extended footage of Yoda in combat.

I couldn't believe what a waste of time that CNN special was. There wasn't anything new that anyone, even those who stay away from sites like this, don't already know.

Connie's interviews were absolutely nauseating. Half the time she was asking questions and making conversations that had absolutely nothing to do with the movie, i.e. talking to Jackson about golf, give me a break!! The only interview that was remotely interesting was with Frank Oz!!

The comment about Connie's interviews being more insulting to fans is probably true, but that's only because we know the difference. The outsiders that watched it don't know what Connie misrepresented. The problems I had with her interviews were:

    1) Trying to associate "forbidden love" and the Vader/Luke relationship as being rooted in some deep dark secret in Lucas' past, when I've never seen anything written anywhere in the past suggesting this, and HAVE read several articles addressing the mythological roots of Star Wars. Basically - Connie did no research.

    2) Suggesting that people will be saying, "Hayden who?" if AOTC fails, when meanwhile Hayden has already been nominated for a Golden Globe for Life as a House.

    3) Talking about golf with Sam Jackson, and throwing out that she thinks Sam golfs to "stay out of trouble." What the hell does that mean???

    4) Bringing up Oz's clash with Brando on The Score, when the interview was set up to be about Yoda, and included Rob Coleman as well. Just totally wrong time and place, beside the fact that it's old news and Brando is a well known lunatic whose actions have no explanation.

As I said in another post I created last night that got locked, she is THE definition of a twit. I wrote an email to CNN about it as well, so hopefully others do as well and she gets the picture that she can't go into interviews like an airhead.

    Connie Chung's a !@#$!!#@ moron.

I know her questions may have been scripted for her... but in live situations, a lot of the filler comes from knowing how to segue responses into new questions, and all she could do is sit there and ask Sam Jackson about his goddamned golf swing when we all know how important Star Wars is to Sam--the dude practically begged to be in it ("I'll do anything... I'll be Luke Skywalker's slave!" ..he actually said that in an interview prior to Episode I).

Maybe she belongs on 60 Minutes II... you know, that "newer, hipper" 60 Minutes for the not-quite-yet-committed-to-the-nursing-home set. She and Charles Grodin should do a talk show together... and call it "Incomprehensible Dialogues".

Charles: "So, anyway... today we're going to talk to George Lucas about Star Wars."

Connie: "George, are there going to be any of those cute teletubbies in this movie?"

George: "I think you mean Ewoks... and no."

Charles: "I like ewoks... when I was a kid, I think we had a dog named 'Butch'. But he wasn't neutered... so they tell me. Do you think dogs should be neutered?"

    George: "Ummm..."

Connie: "20 years ago, you made 'E.T.'... Did you use the same computer technology in this movie?"

George: "That was my friend, Steven Spielberg... E.T. was a puppet then."

Charles: "I like Yoda... he's very wise... I had a grandfather who was like him."

    George: (looking at watch)

Here's a copy of the letter I submitted to CNN.com about Connie Chung:

Her special on Star Wars was horribly executed, and makes me question the scruples of CNN to put such an oblivious anchor in the driver's seat when it's clear she was not prepared to do this job.

I don't know if it was the fault of the writers who script the questions for her, but in a live program you need to have someone who can quickly pick up signals and segue into the right directions...

Instead of discussing salient points about Star Wars, which the target audience for this program might actually find interesting, here she is wasting airtime talking about Sam Jackson's golf swing, throwing out non-sequitur comments about it "helping him stay out of trouble..." WHAT does this have to do with anything? Even more glaring... do white people get asked if they play golf to "stay out of trouble"?

Connie Chung was a blatant disaster... maybe you should pawn her off to CBS to do 60 Minutes II with the not-yet-incapacitated "young" 60-something crowd... or perhaps partner her up with Charles Grodin, who couldn't keep an interview on track if the questions were stapled to his face.

Did anyone else notice that Lucas kind of slammed the newer Star Trek stuff?

Idiot Chung asked him if there would be any movies after he's gone, and he of course said no.

He then said that he didn't want this to turn into something like Star Trek. Ouch!

I agree though. While I think the TNG movies are OK, the saga has been seriously diluted by all the people that have been creatively stirring the pot since Roddenberry died.

I'd hate to see Star Wars diminished in that way.

    SnowDog;

    Great letter- and you're right.

They should've had Anderson Cooper do the live from the ranch stuff- he did some reports and a preview in the morning.

I used to not like cooper, but after seeing his reports and how he's a fan like the rest of us, i've changed my mind.

Didn't Chung do the interview with Gary Condit?

Shouldn't expect too much from her, after the Condit interview, I lost all faith in her as a responsible journalist.

God Connie Chung is a hack. I only saw about 15 minutes of that but she was absolutely terrible.

When she was interviewing SLJ and mentioned that he 'needs to stay busy to keep out of trouble,' that was so uncomfortable. He had a look on his face like, "what the * is that supposed to mean?"

The she talked about golf, asking him if he plays "helicopter golf" What is that? That obviously made Sam uncomfortable. Even if he has done that, most stars don't like being forced to chat about decadence like that.

Then when she cut off Frank Oz and the Effects Supervisor saying, 'on your own dime guys.' That was just plain rude and unprofessional.

She brought up the Brando/Oz flap during the making of the Score which was terribly uncomfortable and inappropriate.

She wasn't aware that Yoda uses a lightsabre. She was completely unprepared to do this set of interviews.

    Connie Chung sucks

Connie: I'm here with Gary Condit, Bill Clinton, Robert Blake, OJ Simpson, and George Lucas. We're here to talk Star Wars.

    Everyone: Hello Connie.

Connie: OJ, have you found the real killer yet?

OJ: Yes, it was Darth Maul, but unfortunately he's dead now so he can't be questioned.

Connie: Makes sense. Gary, do you know what happened to Chandra Levy?

Gary: Well, I think she was simpy edited out with the rest of Padme's family.

Connie: Of course. Robert, what's your alibi in your wife's murder case?

Robert: Well, I left the restaurant because of a conveniently timed Jedi mind trick...you will leave the restaurant now...I will leave the restaurant now.... Then I came back and my wife was dead, and she never had a chance because Greedo shot first.

Connie: Right. Bill, can you tell us how the Monica situation became all about sex when the real story was the numerous Constitutional violations you perpetrated?

Bill: Because it was I who leaked the sex story to the media! It was I who had you eating it up like it was nothing more than a meaningless tabloid sex story! It was I who had already negotiated an acquittal in the Senate impeachment trial before they looked at the evidence. Now come here girl, and watch as the final remnants of your insignificant television are ripped to shreds by giving me a talk show!

Connie: Super. George, why are you here?

George: I was here to talk about Star Wars. But I guess that's been covered pretty fully.

    :D

I don't know how that stupid * has a career in journalism. It was clear that she was pissed about getting a fluff piece, so she tried to make every question controversial and combative. What a stupid, unprofessional *.

When she told Lucas that his whole life is Star Wars I wanted him to press a button and have a hundred clones escort her the hell off his property.

After reading several pages, I know why you guys are pissed off at CC. Maybe Lucas should use her as inspiration for a character in Ep III.

Here is a copy of what I sent to CNN hope this was tacful enough- I didn't want to be. :D

I am writing to express my displeasure with Connie Chung's Star Wars interview special that aired yesterday. Weather or not a veiwer is a fan of Star Wars can not hide the fact that the interviews came across as poorly researched, accomplished very little in the way of allowing the cast and crew to provide new insight into the film, and at times were downright rude or insulting.
Connie came across as having little or no interest at all in Star Wars, and often as if she was trying to put words into the mouths of George Lucas and Company. She also seemed more interested in talking about things that had nothing to do with the subject matter.
While certainly each person is entitled to their own bias or opinion, it is the duty of the reporter to view every story they cover objectively. I hope Connie tries to accomplish this better in the future.
