ST Colin Trevorrow NOT directing Episode IX

Fair enough. However, I was quite skeptical of both Abrams and Edwards, but ended up really liking TFA and adoring RO.

Does that mean Trevorrow could surprise me? In theory, yes. But I detect a strong thread in Trevorrow's work. A deep and persistent artificiality. And I don't think he'll suddenly break with that for IX. So I think LFL either has to bring on a second director, or pay Trevorrow a severance and go with someone else. For Trevorrow's sake, I lean towards the former option. But at the same time, the film doesn't make me feel empathy for Trevorrow (and I'm a serially empathetic person). His approach to serious issues like child abuse are so enraging that they kill any goodwill I would normally have for an artist that bravely put something out there and failed.

But yeah. I suppose there are people here who...might like...parts of it. Perhaps 5-10 minutes or so.

Exactly. Because a film about child abuse and brain cancer SHOULD be fun.

 

Hamill loves BoH and the Killing Joke, but had major issues with TFA and TLJ.

Has it been established that Monster Trucks didn't co-write the IX script?

 

The fact that people are calling it the worst film they've ever seen is pretty damning in my opinion. Something needs to be done ASAP

 

Wow, it really sounds like a divisive and explosive film. I saw him do an interview on Collider just this morning and he seemed like an ok guy, but his work seems to scream something very different.

 

As far as we're aware, he has.

 

Forgot about Brad Bird doing Incredibles 2. Matt Reeves is a good choice, JJ friend, but was he not offered The Batman by Warner?

I think we overact a bit now - its a film, yeah maybe a bad, bad film. But one film does not define a man, an artist, the auteur, the director. It might have been his midlife crisis film for what i know. Those are always bad.

 

I had issues with TFA, so what does this say?

 

As you know, I'm not a fan of Whedon as a film director, and have railed against his involvement in SW. Continuously. And yet, compared to Trevorrow, he'd be like an angel from heaven.

 

That.... you and Mark might really dig Episode IX?

 

You will absolutely ADORE Book of Henry.

 

First TLJ has to deliver. We have not seen this movie yet.

Guys the point is Hamill is my anti-spirit animal when it comes to taste in film. No offense to anyone who feels otherwise. I'm a bit giddy about the apparent awfulness of BoH so's I'm letting off steam in silly ways.

 

I just haven't seen Trevorrow bring Monster Trucks Connolly up during interviews about Star Wars. But I've seen his name associated with the project in the press and fan site reports. So I still don't know. StarWars.com doesn't mention him.

 

I'll say one good thing about Book of Henry. For two straight hours, it made be completely forget about how horrible Donald Trump is. And that's like all I think about these days.

 

I have never seen you guys hyperbole this way yet, so I'm really worried. And I was worried a lot about Luke the last years since I joined this forum.

 

My feeling is that this isn't really about The Book of Henry. It's about the fact that it forces a reevaluation of Trevorrow's work in general. It brings into question his directorial judgement. If IX wasn't in the works, he'd be in director jail right now.

He's his writing partner. And he was with Trevorrow in one of those videos that Josh Gad did with Daisy Ridley.

 

You've convinced me. I'm buying tickets right now for every day this week.

 

Careful. This could end up in an ad next week.
