The American right embrace anti-intellectualism the way most of us embrace oxygen. If a fact challenges their view, they will spend time assassinating the person who supplied the fact than reconsidering their position.

You're basically faced with a world that's changing at a pace that you feel excludes you, and you're desperately looking for things to point out that this change is unjust. It's neither just or unjust; it just is. I don't spent much time lamenting the poor folks whose sole job it was to copy books in painstakingly neat handwriting. Nor do I lament those for whom the construction of stage coaches was their livelihood. Time and progress march in a direction that represents the natural impulse of society as a whole. It is indifferent to man-made notions of ethics, morality, or the like.

You simply need to accept the world will leave you behind if you keep dragging your feet off the locomotive of progress in a vain and futile attempt to slow it down.
