COLOUR, you bloody yanks! If there's no U in it, where do you get the "ur" sound at the end from?

    by spelling it coloor?

color more efficient, the lazy way ;) .

colour rubs me wrong, i think of some british snob slowly pronouncing it...more likely in a fancy restaurant or museum when it comes to mention....*thinks* ah scary guy with big nose! *runs away*

Color. Without the U it doesn't sound any different really, unless you want it to. Fewer letters usually means less time writing or typing...a few seconds less at least.

My AP English teacher would tell me it's "color" but the other way is soooo much prettier!

Color, because I have a hard enough time spelling as it is. Why complicate things by adding letters you don?t need.

It's not just the extra "u":

    theater/theatre
    lightsaber/lightsabre
    gray/grey
    defense/defence

Anywho, I vote for color! :D

    Wrong.

Colour in English. Color in American.

Ever notice how America is so backward? Imperial measurement system, their mutilation of the English language... ;)

Color. Why add superfluous U's when you don't need to?

I use color. Colour just adds an extra letter to say the same thing.

Hey if we have to win your wars for you...we can spell color any damn way we want...step lively there! Just kidding. People need to recognize that American English is a modified dialect and we don't subscribe to certain rules of the parent language. We've always been rebelious..."original since 1776." Hell, french canadians and the real french don't speak the same french. Mexicans and spaniards don't speak the same Spanish. If we're getting into it, we don't even speak the same language in this country (America). Buggy or Shopping Cart, Pop or Soda, Bubbler or Water Fountain. Who knows what I'm talking about!?!? And don't get me started about that Ebonics debacle over on the West Coast a few years ago. I still have problems with certain words...Gray/Grey, Theater/Theatre...here they are both acceptable. I think we should all thank whatever being we worship that we didn't have to learn Chinese (no offense, that's hard stuff), and leave it at that.

Funny thing is that in Spanish-speaking countries spell it "color" in their own language but spell it "colour" (at least in Spain) when learning English.

You know, if England invented the language, why can't they speak or spell it correctly?

well we don't, and we don't have bears roaming the streets either!

No, you have Canadians roaming the streets. <<shudder>>

    Kidding. ;)

As for lightsaber/lightsabre, the American spelling is the correct, seeing as the creator was American. And why is Britain proud of using more letters to say the exact same thing? ;)

Yeah, lightsaber is the only correct spelling. That word does not exist in our language, so the way the creator of the word spelled it is the only correct way. I mean, you don't see the Brits spelling Endor as "Endour," do you? Spelling lightsaber is no different.

Last time I checked, lightsaber and lightsabre have the same amount of letters.

    Also, Americans pronounce things differently and are proud of it! ;

    I say "rek-erd", Brits/Aussies/Canadians say "rek-ohrd".

    I say "sked-yuhl", Brits/Aussies/Canadians say "shed-yuhl".

I say "agin", Brits/Aussies/Canadians say "agayn", etc.
