*hold up hands in a defensive manner* Yes, we Americans have changed the spelling of words and use different words that the British, but you cannot say that we are the only ones!

Look at Spain. The people of Mexico still speak Spanish to this day. However, they too change works and some spellings.

    For example:

(U.S.) We go to the theater
(U.K.) We go to the theatre

Different spelling, but they still mean the same!!

(Spain) Vosotros vias a la teatro
(Mexico) Ustedes van a la teatro

For non spanish speakers, Vosotros is the Spanish way of saying "All of you." Ustedes also means "All of you (I have to respect)," but the Spanish use Vosotros to refer to people they don't respect. The Mexicans simply use Ustedes to cover "All of you"

If that made any sense whatsoever, then you can see... Different, but the same! :p

I'm from Germany, and our language seems to be so difficult that everybody is just fine if everybody else understands what's meant.

English was quite difficult in school for many kids, because the teachers couldn't decide whether to teach us BE or AE. I started learning BE then had some AE, then had a teacher who insisted on BE again. I was one of the very few not becoming completely confused...

I personally don't think it matters how you spell something, als long as you get across. Language changes anyway, and so does spelling. Nobody would say: "where art thou" nowadays, would they?

I am canadian and I still use Color.

Better than colour, but still horribly wrong.

    colour reads Coh-Looer

Color reads cah-lor or coh-lor or something.

if i had it my way it would be spelt:

    Culer

    or something

    :?

    Color!

It's the American way, and it looks better! Comformity on both sides. Not my fault you balmy Brits speak like the Monty Python crew all the time.

Sides, we rule the world, don't try to defy, or we'll get Blair to cower more like the loyal American poodle he is :D
