ST Comedy in TFA

The thumbs up from BB-8 cracked me up.

 

That's not how the force works!

 

When Han died that was pretty funny as well haha.

 

Maz: "HAN SOLO! Where's my boyfriend?!"

 

I LIKE that wookiee.

 

Thumbs up was funny, but the best part is both Boyega and Ford has funny bits together and one their own. Gives me hope Ep. 8 will have funny moments without Solo around.

My favorite Finn bit was immediately before the thumbs up when he tries to get BB-8 to tell him where the resistance base is;
My favorite Finn/Solo bit was when they were on Starkiller base and Finn says he would use the force to figure it out (winging it basically) and Solo cuts back sharply 'THAT'S NOT HOW THE FORCE Works'
My favorite Sole moment was with Chewie when the gangs board his ship

 

As soon as Poe rags on Ren's mask and voice and the entire theater laughed out loud I felt a sense of relief. Holy cow, we're going to see actors that emote and jokes that work. Every time BB-8 tried to get a laugh, it worked. His thumbs up was the biggest laugh of every screening I saw. Imagine that, Star Wars comedic relief that doesn't make most adults want to punch the screen.

 

I love when Han said "have I ever let you down?" And Tasu says twice. Han then asks what the second time was, which means he was blatantly lying by basically saying he had never let them down

I still laugh out loud each time at the end of the garbage compactor scene when C3PO thinks that they are dying when he hears all the screams. It was perfect.

 

Rewatching the OT in the lead up for the first time in a few years reminded me of just how funny they are - especially Han, but also Threepio and Artoo of course - but this new one goes above and beyond even them when it comes to laughs.

There are only a couple of moments the jokes fall a little flat, but most of the time the main threesome of Rey, Finn and Han sell them beautifully. Chewie gets a ton of hilarious moments too.

 

I agree that this was probably the funniest SW film to date and that's saying a lot considering they all have their lighter moments of humor. But this one especially was lol funny in many places. And the chemistry between the cast: wow.

 

Mostly EXCELLENT comedy, with a few extremely cringeworthy lines from Finn. I liked him overall, but he made me cringe quite a few times, and not just with his comedy.

 

I agree, the humor was done right and put in the right places. It made the movie that much more enjoyable.

 

Oh my God, was it the sanitation thing and the force thing? That was gold!

 

He overacted in the first part of the film badly. It came off as "I have to prove myself since this is my first time is a huge film by using every technique I ever learned to express convincing raw emotion!" Real cringey. His lines near and at the point when he asked Rey about her boyfriend or lack thereof, and his scene with the captured Phasma come to mind as cringey comedy, but there are more. Not sure which lines you refer to (I only saw it once).

 

I liked some of the comedy, but some of it was just really badly placed and cringeworthy. Like Poe's zingy one liners to Kylo in the beginning when he shoots at him... Ugh. That was unnecessary. But like I said, I enjoyed most of it.

 

I mean, I enjoyed some but heavy comedy isn't really my thing. Probably why I'm more excited by Rian Johnson's star wars film. I rolled my eyes on more than one occasion during TFA.

 

Finn being so delighted to turn the tables on Phasma was the highlight for me. It goes to show how different taste can be.

 

I loved Finn's stuff throughout. And I laughed out loud at the sanitation thing, especially Harrison's reaction…*gasp sanitation!*

Hahha!

 

The fact that Finn only calls Han Solo, "Solo" makes me chuckle every time

 

It's funny because as Finn is trying hard to be somebody and prove he is good, Kylo is trying hard to be someone too, but bad.

Then you have Rey, who seems unsure of who she is and her place in the world until the very end.

 

"You're alive!"
"Hey, that's my jacket."
"You want it back?"

I love the writing in this film.
