Has anyone besides me gotten the Comic Con registration booklet in the mail yet? Have you noticed that one of the suggested themes for this year is "Star Wars 25th Anniversary!" I sure hope they pick Star Wars as the theme to this years event. Last year was awesome with the "Connections" presentation that was hosted by Steve Sansweet. I had an amazing time at last years event, I met a lot of my favorite Star Wars authors etc. This year the event will be from August 1st - August 4th which I think is perfect as my birthday falls within those days. What a great birthday present!

Jedi Apprentice is scheduled to premier there and the 501st will be the head of seceraty for it's opening ( Imagine at least 20 stormtropers with blasters surrounding you while you watch the movie. That is if we stell have the love and support from the 501 right jeff? and if that's still how many trops are going to be there.) We are also entering the beautiful and detaild 62+ costums that Nicky form the 501st has made for the moive, in to the maskarad this year.So yea I'm there.

I meant in terms of vaild celebrities. Not that the 501 aren't cool, but I can't see paying to see them. (No offense :) ) I can see paying for Kevin Smith, Chris Carter, Matt Groening, ect.

Well, Kevin Smith is ALWAYS there. I seem to bump into him a LOT!

I bet there will be a big SW theme this year, because both EPII and the 25th Ann.. But also cause the SD Comic-Con WAS the first Convention that Star Wars was advertised at! There was rumor that SWCII was SUPPOSED to be in San Diego.....guess some one owed somebody else a favor... :(

The BIG guests aren't usually advertised much till about a week before.

The 501st should be around 30-50+ in number on Saturday, there's no way anyone will miss us! Hopefully we won't get screwed by Wizards of the Coast again.....

    Brandon, we're up for anything!

At first, I wasn't sure what weekend in August was Comic-Con 2002, and thought it might conflict with another convention that I'll be attend in August (A QUEEN Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.. August 16 - 18, 2002. A convention about the rock band).

But since there no conflict... I should be able attend on Saturday, August 3rd. Just look for someone wearing Emperor Palpatine-type Robes.

Your 1st Con? Well you're LUCKY to live in San Diego! The Comic-Con is the biggest of it's kind! I'm so spoiled when I go to other Cons that are so small. :p

So.. Animaster is what.. those people who regularly attend Conventions...

A Convention Virgin... A Newbie to the Convention scene.

It's kind of a shame... but San Diego holds only 2 Sci-Fi / Comic Book conventions a year...

There's a convention called Con-Dor, usually holds the convention in February... in Del Mar.

    And there is Comic-Con International

The Con-Dor Convention is a somewhat small Sci-Fi / Media Convention. It's a nice early convention where people can also do different Sci-Fi type panels.

You might catch some Con-Dor flyers... at Comic-Con in August... usually where the freebie tables are.

I would have provided a link to the Con-Dor website... but the site is currently down.

I'll post it... once the site is back up again.

Grettings, y'all. I've been away at school since September and was wondering if they have finished the convention center expansion. I remember from last year's con that that thing looked HUGE!!! Anybody know if they'll be using any more of the expanded area like they did for the floor last year?

Edit: Nix that first part, I just read the Celebration III post. Still, does anyone know how much of the new space will be used?

Ok, for those of you who are going all 4 days and were planning on staying in one of the hotels down there....guess what....ALL MAJOR Hotels are ALREADY booked!!!! We usually stay down there cause it's a bitch having to haul costumes back and forth and looking for parking....that, and the parties NEVER stop! ;) The nearest we were able to get is at the US Grant. So book your rooms ASAP!

I'll be sending out info soon about the Con and taking attendee names from the 501st, Rebel Legion and this group for a master list of names and activities that I'll send back out a week before the Con. I've done this the last 2 years and it helped people know who's coming and they can finally meet eachother in person.

    More info soon!

Not to get anyone's hopes up prematurely, but just a Comicon fyi: MJF is going to see about San Diego Star Wars Society getting involved in the Comicon, as in: have a booth we can man throughout the con; and get free memberships in exchange for a small volunteer time (3 hours?) Also: We'd like to enter a SDSWS costumed group in the Masquerade!!!

Homeless Jedi is producing a video to be shown continuously at our booth at the con, and we're going to try to shmooze our way into having it shown during Trailer Park.

We'll keep you updated of course, but those of you who are taking off work to be at the Con, if you could please think about volunteering to help man the booth for a small block of time during the con, that would be wonderful!

That would be awesome! I was also wondering if someone was gonna try to organize a group costume thing. Hopefully, I'll have mine put together by then. [face_mischief] Though I am attending with a group of friends, I might be able to wedge in some booth time.

Well as you can plainly see I am new to all of this.
Would your group happen to be made up of all those individuals I saw last year? I had my picture taken with a very cute Stormtrooper.
I have a group of friends who were going to dress in costume this year, but were not willing to do so if they were the only ones. I find that rather funny.

Well, the 501st has been there in force the last 2 years, usually about 30-45 Imperials walking around the Con. We're planning on more this year. We get members from East Coast, Canada, Switzerland and Germany. We have worked with some of the companies during the Con, like Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro. This year we hope to pull some escorting duies, I have a connection with the person that books all the stars ;) Last year we had dinner with Peter Mayhew, Richard (I'm always forgeting how to spell his last name, the guy that played Admiral Motti), a few ILM guys and the actors that played Drake and Vasquez in Aliens. And since it's going to be a special year for Star Wars, and the San Diego Comic-Con was the FIRST Con they advertised at, I'm hoping there will be some COOL things going on...AND depending how LFL likes the job the 501st does at the Celebration, we might get called to duty again :)

MY UPDATE WILL BE OUT AFTER I GET BACK FROM THE CELEBRATION!

    :)

    Jeff
