San Diego, CA Comic Con 2006 July 19th - 23rd!

Forgive the newbie question, but do SDSWS members tend to stay in costume during the entire time at Comic Con, or only while working at the booths?

 

As Darth-Brian would say, if I didn't beat him to it, we are not a costume club. I'd say the majority wear SDSWS club shirts while working the table, or at least a Star Wars themed shirt, or just regular clothes. Those members in the 501st or Rebel Legion are the ones you will find dressing up on occassion.

 

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, there should be at last one costumed member manning the Rebel Legion all the time. Most likely both, if there are 2 there.

Preview night is casual for the few hours the Convention Center is open, people wear Rebel Legion or Star Wars shirts usually.

Sunday is also somewhat casual, some of the SDSWS people started a "Jedi on Vactaion" costume a few years back: Hawaiian shirts, shorts and Jedi robes and boots. Some of the people at the Rebel Legion table will be carrying that over on that day.

The 501st will probably have costumed people at their table most of the time, too.

Rebel Legion is a costume club though so don't confuse what the person above said as indicative of the SDSWS.

 

who all will be attending the Kevin Smith panel?

and is anyone going to try and see Clerks 2 while at the con? I want to go but alas - time and I hate going to movies alone.

 

okay... hum odd. Am I being blind again or is Lucas not having a prescence at all on the floor this year? They aren't on the list and they aren't on the floorplan either. Have they decided that they don't need ComiCon this year as much because of C4 or is this usual for them to not have an exhibt during off years?

Awesome. I've got all the programs I really want to attend on my schedule and it's just enough to keep me busy, but not so much that I should be absolutely insane. Well....I'll be insane anyways, but in a good way.

Worked a 14 hour shift at work today, and I have to be back at 6am, so I'll finally get to look at the program then get the schedule/sign ups for the Fanforce table up.

Thanks for posting the Sunday schedule, Jess. I was unable to as I was at Disneyland for the 9th time since December.

 

Beat ya, Brian. We were there for the 16th time since January.. PotCII Midnight Opening..

 

this would be the first year in 3 or 4 years without an official star wars pavilion. they don't have anything in particular to promote this year (no recent movie release, nothing huge coming in the next 12 months) and so will simply stick with their Lucasfilm spectacular program on friday for announcements. also, many of their partners might have other arrangements to be tied in with other companies for other franchises that are more topical this year.

 

Yeah, well I live farther away than you do.

FYI: Our Comic Con tables are A9 and A10 down on the dealer floor. This is the southwestern corner. Fanforce will be sharing 1/2 of one of the Dealer floor tables with us. DivX is sponsoring ALL the fanclubs in our row. Us, and the No Cal and So Cal Browncoats.

 

Actually, you live closer Brian. Kim lives in Visalia; it's about a 3-hour drive for her.

Hello again, volunteers!

Things are changing all the time for Comic Con and they may change on
the fly while we're there. We are now in desperate need for line
managers for the autographing guests. Carrie's line will be quite
long and she is *supposed* to be there all day Friday and Saturday.
There is also the possibility of another guest attending for a couple
of hours which may inundate the booth with autograph seekers. I
can't say who it is since it is only a possibility, but I can
positively say that it is NOT Sam Jackson (I knew you were all
thinking this

Here is what I need. Please ask any of your buddies if they'd like
to help, especially those from the 501st (can dress in costume for
line management), Rebel Legion, and Star Wars Fan Clubs.

2 or 3 additional people for each of these shifts:

Fri, 7/21, 9:30 AM-2:30 PM
Fri, 7/21, 2:00 PM-7:00 PM
Sat, 7/22, 8:30 AM-1:30 PM
Sat, 7/22, 1:00 PM-7:00 PM

And I still need some help for these shifts in the booth:

Fri, 7/21, 9:30 AM-2:30 PM
Sat, 7/22, 1:00 PM-7:00 PM
Sun, 7/23, 9:30 AM-2:30 PM
Sun, 7/23, 2:00 PM-7:00 PM

Compensation: All volunteers will still receive $10/hour credit
toward anything in the booth. In addition we are now offering one
free autograph coupon for each of the guests to any volunteer that
will work two or more shifts, a $125 value (that includes you guys so
please sign up for more shifts!) Here is the schedule so far:
