Which Con will YOU choose? [face_mischief]

As I recall, there has been discussion in the past about going to Dragon*Con this year. However, ComicCon seems to have become a bit of a tradition for the PFF (due to location and past experience). SO, I'm posting information about BOTH cons, and in the meantime, while we all save our money ($20 a week, folks - just do it), we can decide once and for all where we want to go.

Why not do both?
Well, as you'll see with the information below, it IS possible, but it's gonna get rather expensive that way. Especially since, for the majority of us, flying to Atlanta for Dragon*Con would be highly preferable to driving. But, hey, if you want to do both, start putting away $40 to $50 a week (it *is* possible... I haven't figured out how yet, either, but it is).

I'm sure for most of us it'll be one or the other.

"Dragon*Con 2004, America's largest annual convention for fans of science fiction, fantasy and horror, comics and art, games and computers, animation, science, music, television and films..."

Where: Atlanta, GA
When: September 3-6, 2004
How much: (all 4 days)
--$50 if registered by Feb. 13th
--$60 if registered by May 14th
--$70 if registered by July 15th
--$85 thereafter and at the door

Suffice it to say, it's good to decide ASAP for cheapest registration rates.

Hotels will add a significant chunk of change to be saved up. The fees above are only for the convention itself.

For ALL further information, including hotels, events and contests, check out [link=http://www.dragoncon.org/]The Dragon*Con webpage[/link].

This is quite possibly the largest COSTUMING convention in the U.S. Costume-Con *does* exist as well, but Dragon*Con is famous for the variety and quality of costumes that show up year after year.

Please remember, this is the only information that I know of - I've never been, I don't know anything further. blackfeather is the only PFF member I know of that's been to Dragon*Con, so ask him. :) (yeah, he loves me now :D )

--$50 postmarked by June 5th

Once again, decide ASAP so you can register early.

Hotels will add a significant chunk of change to be saved up. The fees above are only for the convention itself.

Hotel reservations for Comic-Con opened on January 14. You can call the Comic-Con housing desk for rates and information at this number:

Airline information from PHX to ATL for those considering Dragon*Con (as of Jan 11 - prices go up as the flight date gets closer)

-Southwest - unfortunately, does not fly to Atlanta. Probably because Atlanta is the home and major hub of Delta. :(

--Prices checked for departing Sept 2 from PHX, returning Sept 7 from ATL--

-Delta
**currently** $396.20 per person - round trip

-America West
**currently** $356 per person - round trip

I've linked these two airlines because, as far as I can tell in my searches, they're the only two that have direct flights between here and Atlanta. I prefer direct flights, but that's because I fly too much. [face_blush] Sometimes you can fly cheaper if you connect through other cities.

Expedia.com and Travelocity *might* have some better deals. However, I just checked Expedia, and so far the direct airline fares are better. ANY further airline suggestions, package deals, group rates, and info is MUCH appreciated. PLEASE POST IT BELOW and we'll compile all the info.

:)

FYI, if I remember my travel manager stuff correctly (hey! I'm digging 10 years into the brain!), Atlanta is Delta's major HUB. Also, decide what it is worth to you to break up the flight. This sometimes can save money.

I will definitely be attending Comic Con.
No problem.

As for Dragon Con?
It all depends on how tomorrow goes for me at work.

No matter what tomorrow's result, I'll be making ALOT more $!

We're talking about spending the week in San D before ComicCon since we're gonna be there the weekend before anyway. So we'll only be doing the one Con this time around

Okay, For those of you 25 and under or full time students I can get you airfare for around 300 for DragonCon and for Comic I can get anyone something for about 118.20. I don't remember if those prices are competitive but that is what I have to offer. Remember, the sooner you buy your airfare the cheaper it will be. Last minute deals are a bit iffy, in my opinion. But who am I? Im just a princess. hehehe

yeah, she was a little too... orange i guess?

i've seen a few of the other pics. i took some of the real choice pics of the cute ladies on their runway walk. one of 'em was in the 501st from CA, and the rest of the con she wore costumes for imperial ship mechanic & dark jedi. definitely wasn't rebel scum.

dood, if you & moe go to dragoncon, that'd be so awesome.

$314?!? they're charging over $400 out here!!

do you know how hard it is to find a bargain price like that to atlanta? hanging out on orbitz.com, surfing from the airport website and looking up every airline that goes to atlanta, even trying to mix and match airlines myself (cause southwest doesn't fly there), that's how hard!

i'd kill for a $314 ticket. i think i HAVE killed... [face_blush]

although if you can roadtrip it that far, that'd be a freakin' adventure.

lemme tellya though, the con hotels are very schway. awesome in that plush, scenic and ritzy sort of way. and then there's the parties. some are invitation only (that's never stopped me before, though. can't explain why...), some are open, and some you have to hunt for. but all have lots of free booze, and lots of places to sneak off to for an, ahem, intimate moment with your honey. like under stairs, at the dance with the lights down real low, and for a thrill, actually in a hotel room. some of the male attendees dressed in their finest corsets and skirts, so any outfit choices are acceptable.
oh, and the art shows are of da HOOK!

a word of warning though? for those that do go, PRE-REG. i can't emphasize that enough. the line of people that register on-site goes all over the place, and it's inside the hotel's lower levels. it's like the small intestine, coiling everywhere. to be fair, the pre-reg line can be long too, depending on when you get there. so get there before dawn. camp out. snipe out anyone trying to make the kill and snag your ammo. watch for respawn points. you know the drill.

did i mention that the 501st usually pulls escort duty for some of the big events, like the costume contests? imagine darth vader putting a force chokehold on tv's tom servo. hee. freakin' awesome.
