I admit I'm a lover of droids large and small, and i actually very much love the aesthetics of the CIS droid army. However I've found their ineffectiveness in both the films and EU hurtful to their general character, as well as their (admittedly sometimes enjoyable but unfitting) comic relief status. I mean, this is the threat that scared the Republic into creating an army, into taking steps to fascism. Seriously, a militia force could have taken out the CIS as portrayed in the films. But luckily, this is where Commando droids step in. Far less situational than Droidekas, far more numerous than Magnagaurds, they're the style of the CIS plus actual effectiveness, and a wonderfully sinister aura. When TCW wants a fight where you can believe that a couple clones may die, who do you call? Commando droids! When you need someone to escort your heroes to their 'doom' without the audience constantly thinking 'just destroy the bastards, you've never had trouble before', who do you call? Commando Droids! I just hope that their relatively growing amount of appearances don't lead to their longevity in combat shortening. They did do the least the last episode, where although they still put up more of a fight than regular forces (which is usually none at all) they weren't really the threat. But still, better than nothing. Basically, I'm very happy some non-main bad guys can put up a fight for once. I also like their (sub-par but still usable) disguising abilities, I'd like to see that come up again. It probably won't because star wars has a habit of having an awesome thing happen once and never be seen again, but it'd be cool if it did.
Also, if they ever make another Battlefront game, they could take the place of Magnaguards! Because Magnaguards with blasters, even weird pulsey ones as they were in Battlefront 2, just don't fit to me. Magnaguards are super cool, but with staffs, as, well, guards. Don't really make sense on the field with common battle droids, shooting at clones. Commando Droids would fit the bill perfectly, as the droid you have to unlock that isn't a Droideka and is more a high-powered, versatile b1. Which is what a Commando droid basically is.
Finally, those shields the Citadel ones use are awesome (for the wookieepedia article i wrote on them i called them Droid Commando Personal Energy Shields), i want those coming back. They're like an evil version of a Gungan sheild.
Oh, one more thing. Have they been in any video games? Haven't played any TCW game. I feel they all came out before they were around.

Yes. Yes they are cool. Or at least, they were in Rookies, but every subsequent appearance makes them less and less intimidating and eventually they will be just like the Super Battle Droids, or even (God forbid) the B1s.

I wanna see more droidekas, those things DESTROY and they're the only droids in the CIS armies that the Jedi have a genuine fear of coming up against.

commandodroids are good addition to CIS-forces but while B1s are funny and alone pretty useless- giant army of them is still indimitating and they loose their funniness when they shoot at you- we haven't seen big enough droid armies- Malastare battle had best one yet- Ryloth has ok battle in Supply lines too.....

Tank droids are underused- and crabdroids- they were nicely in spotlight during Citadel escape though....

Citadel trilogy to me seemed like they were trying to make up for having NO crab droids since...what, the movie? Especially that bit at the end of Rescue when there's like 100+ of them swarming over the island.[face_laugh]

Yea, that random stampede of crab droids was a bit odd but once again nessecary for the conflict to have any weight.
On a large army of B1s being formidable, this is true, but an equal army of clones is better, and although EU sources say that B1s far outnumber clones, i have yet to see a lopsided large-scale battle.
And i also mentioned a fear of them getting less and less powerful. I feel that Super battle droids have been de-powered to the point of being almost as weak as B1s. Commandos have gotten weaker but not that drastically yet.

Movie had no crabs- Bombad jedi and Zillo Beast were their only appearances until this arc... Tank droids also appeared in Zillo Beast- first time after movie.... they really overuse Hyenas nowadays -almost all battles have those- Republic also has not enough different vehicles and vessels even though many are animated already.... Turbo tank/Juggenaut will return in season finale duology though.....

crab droids are still lacking pair of legs- in ROTS they had six in TCW four legs..... well different models i guess....or animators messing up:rolleyes:

Commandos need to remain special forces so they stay cool elitedroids- i want to see battledroid victory for once- well Supply Lines however had one.... but not fun when you know how republic won on Ryloth after all.....

 I knew it was sometime early in Season 1. I seem to be getting a lot of things wrong lately[face_thinking]maybe I should spend today topping up my Star Wars knowledge bank. Way more fun than going to boring Politics lectures at least:p

Not on Mandalore- there they have young females teaching them about evils of corruption.... in revealing tubetops[face_laugh] But how many male students would really remember much about shown diagrams or explained terminology after that lesson?- Even though they probably followed it.... very closely....

And once again i find myself talking totally off-topic stuff:oops:

Yeah commandodroids are cool- when do they portray prison break and free seppies from Coruscant prison?:p

http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/d/d8/Crabdroid_bg.jpg Looks like 4 legs to me...

Also, as much as I LOVE the commando droids, I've always thought that crab droids were so cool!

Actually even that particular droid has six legs- maybe they used that pic as reference hence the error- but i've seen ROTS million times i know all crabs in ROTS are sixlegged- even that one- at least in actual movie it has six legs- one pair is barely seen in this pic but look left legs there is three seen - just watch the movie- here is one proof: [image=http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/b/b5/Crab-droid_negtd.jpg] this is animation CGI-modle from movie- their all six legs can be seen clearly just before Grievous says Obi-Wan is doomed- watch movie cannot find any screenshot but i'm sure it has six legs

This clip shows all 6 legs clearly in 1:34 or so

Yes, commando droids rock. How about letting them "win" a little more often?

Now that I mention it, how about letting the Confederacy win one ever.

Hmm I seem to be incorrect. Good eye, swash!

And CT, while it is an old complaint I also agree they should win more often :p

Thanks- i don't usually complain about details without good reason though..... Terrible irony how they even have managed to take that screenshot- (that is most usual screeshot of crabdroid) where it looks like 4 legged- i could bet that is their reference pic when animating TCW:oops: Really ironic if that's the reason why it has only 4 in TCW:p - but well it's confirmed in EU that crabdroids have several models- from 1 meter long scouts to six meter long giants- apparently these are bit smaller 4-legged scouts and Utapau crabs were bit bigger 6-legged advanced models..... also remember old CW had those giant crab droids with that funny bubblegun:p?

And one of them actually looks more like Eeth Koth than Agen Kolar;) but it was pretty ridiculous moment though.... i hope bubbleguns won't appear in TCW any time soon....

Commando Droids have been an excellent addition to TCW. Loved how they easily overwhelmed grunts in Grievous Intrigue. They easily took care of Koth's troops and Obi-Wan's troops minus a few including Cody.

I think they were used perfectly in The Citadel trilogy. An elite team of Jedi and an elite team of clones should easily take the Commando droids out. Missions like these don't happen often.

Well a supposed elite squad. From what we've seen Rex and Cody are some of the best clones(in the series that we've seen), of course Obi-Wan and Anakin speak for themselves. Though we should of had an episode dedicated to Fives and Echo going on an ARC trooper type mission before this trilogy and succeeding with "flying colors", showing us(the audience) that they deserve this title. I really hope they expand on Fives as a character(not to mention as an ARC Trooper), they really need to after killing Echo off who had 10x the character development Fives had.

We can only hope. I wouldn't mind seeing Echo and Fives' first ARC trooper mission, hopefully the Citadel wasn't their first. There are actually several prequel type episodes with the older models of Anakin and Obi-Wan I wouldn't mind seeing.

I'm sure the TCW crew has a reason for killing off Echo and not Fives though. They have to have something in store for the character.

Perhaps i should try to get this threads name changed to "Crab droids (and Commando Droids) are so freaking cool." The 4-6 leg thing is funny, never noticed that. Apparently animators never did either.

But yes, there's always flashbacks for character development, and i do feel they have to have something relatively big planned for fives. Otherwise all those episodes about them would feel so pointless.

If I had to bet, I would bet that they don't have anything big planned for Fives.

I doubt he'll get any character development and he will simply die as all clones should, in combat.

He'll probably die from something like a Force-high-five given by an over-excited Anakin after a victory.

Honestly, I hated the battle droids in the PT. There's just this huge disconnect between the slow and clunky droids of the OT and the slender and agile machines that the Trade Federation uses....and the whole "they lost the technology after the Clone Wars" explanation didn't fly for me.

However, as the continuity is ruined already, I do have to say the commando droids are pretty cool
