The purpose of the updates is to keep the community informed as to what decisions are being made and what issues are being discussed in the Mod Squad.

The purpose of the updates is to keep the community vaguely informed as to what decisions are being made and what issues are being discussed in the Mod Squad.

And to show off what colors and fonts and pictures we can do! Oh oh oh! And our clever themes!!!!

I think that's probably there just to add an element of fun or to make things a bit more interesting.

It could get pretty dry if it were just bland updates. Why not make it moderately interesting and visually appealing if you can? No harm done, but apparently creativity offends some folks?

Well Vert, Kates promotion and the posting of the update thread in Comm weren't really news as you migt say. Knowing which mods are going to be gone for a few days is good, but otherwise the information contained was basically just a blurb and less informative then the scroll on the bottom of the news channel.

I think one of the things that could be done to make the MS Update much better would be a weekly profile on different Moderators and Admins. It would help the community get to know everyone on the staff better and they would become more than just a name on a message board. To often when someone is promoted they fall out of touch with the regular users.
The weekly "featured mod" could include where they went to college or are going, there interests, hobbies, fav music and things like that. It would really help the community get to know them and feel more like they are a friend not just a staff member.

    That's an interesting idea.

And we create the updates so you know what's going on. That's really what's going on and we want to share it with you.

You're right, farrie, this week's update was a "light news week". But there are weeks that we don't go into major discussions on issues and it's pretty much day-to-day stuff.

So when we do updates on those weeks people say, "These updates are lame" but when there's lots to talk about they're informative. We put them out there so people know what we're talking about.

Since Philgate has dp4m made it become compulsory to wrap MS updates around a movie-of-the-week theme, ensuring the quotes are 2 font points larger, and much more colourful than the actual Update entries?

Actually, seriously, is every mod still expected to do, y'know, at least one update per year. There are some mods who have been around for well over a year that have never ever written one.
