    Hey all,

I'm here typing from my bro-in-laws house because my computer hates me. When it starts, the resolution is decreased, my mouse is gone, and I pretty much can't do anything. Me being computer illiterate, I'm at a lost. Anyone give me hand? Pretty please?

    Mark

sounds like you are trapped in safe mode or someone deleted your drivers and mucked around with your settings.

it might be best to just reinstall your OS.

Possible conflicts, too. What was the last change you made to your sys? Load any software?

I remeber try doing a system restore to the point before you started having problems.

Slow down, XP boy. I'm pretty sure Mark isn't running the most recent operating system. Anything DOS based (95, 98, ME) can do a re=install. Win2000 has a handy repair feature.

    XP sucks.

Nothing like buying a computer and the moment you fire up the desktop, you give all rights to your computer to Microsoft.

Ok, I'm back again at my bro-in-laws. It's not in safe mode, but when I do go into safe mode, my mouse will work but I can't do anything else.

If it helps any, I am running Windows ME.

Try putting in the WinME CD and installing Windows. It won't wipe anything out, just copy over the Windows files, hopefully fixing whatever file is broken.

Also, if it's possible, make sure to have the disks for the video card and sound card handy. Re-installing the drivers for those would be a good idea.

Personal opinion, and I think many will back me up - ME is crap. Total crap. I had nothing but problems running it and finally went back to 98. However, Hazz is right - I would reinstall ME over and over and it would "work" without me losing anything stored on the drive.

I know of only 3 people in the world that like WinME: me, my wife, and another guy at Staples. Of course, we were running a pre-retail version I download from my MSDN subscription, but it ran like a champ for many years.

From what I understand, the retail version did have issues. Use Win2000.

    Me am BAAAAAACK!!!!!!

After a 2 week hiatus, I'm finally back online!! Ok, maybe it cost me all the info on my computer to dissappear, it's better than buying a new one. Now if I can only get my email back.

How did you get your computer back? A reformat or just a reinstall?

By the way, there is a fixing utility on the Windows CD. That could have worked rather than reinstalling it.

I tried the utility to no avail. The only option I had was to reinstall. Luckily, I didn't have alot of important info to lose.

Now if I can only find those compromising pics of Bosh again.

I'm sure there will be AMPLE opportunity in the future to take more pictures like that. It was all we could do to make Dave keep his pants on at the meeting on Saturday.

That's good for you, Jeff, but what about your computer?
