    lol...I'm not angry at all.

I just enjoy harder music. it is a natural release for me. It stimulates my mind. There is so much going on that it boosts my concentration level. Popular/radio music bores me to tears. It is too simple.

You might say oh you must be a *bad* person. But I honestly do not listen to the lyrics. I really dont have the slightest care what they are saying. The vocals mix into the music the same way a guitar does. Just another instrument.

    :D

I'm just ripping on you :)

I know how it is to have a different or off center taste in music! :)

You would probably get a kick out of Fantomas. It's a Mike Patton band with King Buzzo from the Melvins and Dave Lambardo from Slayer. Good stuff! But you will need an open mind! :)

    Rap!! NO!!!!!

There will be many major differences of opinion here. Of which I will keep mine to myself and be the good board member :) Unless you mean old school rap. But the new stuff? Pass...

Reminds me of a line from "The Last Boy Scout" - the bad guy has captured Bruce Willis, and says "I wanna hear you scream" - Bruce comes back with the best line ever... "Yeah? Play some rap music"

**thinks back on very small list of concerts she's been to**

    [face_blush]

I don't know that I even dare list them... heh

Okay, okay - first concert ever was Howard Jones (80's!!!) back in... wow. I think it was Halloween night of '93 actually. Then there were 2 more within about... oh... a year after that. And I've been to 3 or 4 in Phoenix... yikes.

Technically, I suppose I've been to more than just those few if you want to count the classical symphony stuff, but oy... wow.

So much for having a broad appreciation of music... [face_blush]

EDIT: Tenacious D... :D [face_laugh] Yeah, I've been introduced to them. [face_laugh] As for Rap, sorry - I need something that does more than make me go deaf from the bass overload - like actual music. And I suppose one could go into the whole argument about rap being an acquired taste and very diverse, but hearing it in the cars next to me (drowning out my beloved Nightwish) makes me want to drive a white-hot piece of rebar through my ears. So, I'm happy to let other people revel in rap's diversity. :)

    First band I saw in concert . . . [face_blush]Duran Duran face_blush]

Best concert I ever saw was Peter Murphy (formerly of Baus Haus) and that was . . . oh like 18 years ago. I'm not a crowd person.

ok, lets not have a flame war over Rap vs Metal.
    See the Judgement Night Soundtrack.
You tell me which is better after hearing that.

    Neither.

Being someone who is extremely diverse in musical opinions, I can clearly say they are 2 entirely different categories to be compared.

I myself not only love death, metal, thrash, etc..
But also, im quite into rap like:
Cypress Hill, Eminem, House of Pain, ICP.
Im kinda liking Outkast and Method Man too.

Also, I may not like Country music, but I TRY not to curse it out anymore.

Cause after all, the late great Johnny Cash did killer covers of:
    NIN - hurt
    Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
    Depesh Mode - Personal Jesus

I never really cared for Johnny Cash, but respect is due to someone who covers nine inch nails!!!

I like Rock and 80's music, but I am not into rap or country or pop. I am a sucker for 80's hair bands. Poison, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Skid Row etc... but each to their own as they say. :)

Regarding Judgement Night, I do like Another Body Murdered by Faith No More and Boo Ya Tribe!

My thing with rap is that I can't relate to the messages in the songs and being British and an English major, I cringe when I hear the English language being slaughtered! :) an I ain't kiddin' :)

Aw hell.. I can't even keep track... I used to work for the company that did security for concerts (contemporary services corp) - I started as a ground holder (you, stand there and hold down that piece of ground) and soon became a supervisor...

I've done personal (one on one) security for lots of veeps/celebs (notables include Pam Tillis, James Hetfield and Don Henley)... essentially, if there was a concert that happened between San Luis Obispo and San Diego between 1992 and 1996, I was there... football games, superbowls etc...

No big deal... I did have a good time at the Metallica/GNR tour after show party, I got offered everything and anything I wanted to let scantily clad buxom young females into the party, and said no, and because of this, I was invited to come play... I guess they were testing me or something. Dunno...

I used to have a necklace that had all of the "All Access" badges, heh, it started to resemble a large bundle of paper hanging from my neck... and it got thrown out by mistake one time when moving (bad ol' ex girlfriend)...

I listen to rap. I also listen to (in no particular order) rock, metal, death metal, 80's hair bands, pop, R&B, techno, industrial, oldies, classical and even a little country.

Metal is by far my primary interest, though.

Yeah...Music wars are pointless. I personally think rap sucks. But like religion, it is very personal. I'm not going to convert a rap misguided (j/k) person to metal any more than Im going to convice an athiest to join a <insert religion here> church.

It's personal preference, what stimulates your mind and what makes you feel good or helps you get through your troubles.

To me, rap is *generally* very degrading to women and promotes violence in real life *street* kind of ways. However, I reallize that the same things can be said about metal. The difference is that the violence in *death* metal is in a campy, horor movie kind of way. Most people havent hacked up someone, unlike rap, a lot of people have experienced a drive by type thing or been slapped around by someone. Either way they both have negatives. The other thing is Rap has legible lyrics so what they say is absorbed easier. with metal it sometimes isnt understood. And for me that is fine because I do not read or listen to the lyrics. They have little effect on me. Anyway, not starting a war because I know its a lose-lose battle. We are both right. They are both great (in our minds). Unless you are weak minded, neither will change course.

    Nevermore
    Children Of Bodom
    Symphony X
    Iron Maiden
    Cynic (RIP)
    In Flames

    Least Favorite

    Nile
