    Ok so my cleaning up didn't take nearly as long as I had anticipated and it really did the trick, cut the poly count and file size in half.

    So I'm doing my final renders and am going to enter this sucker, and then take a nice big rest...lol

    My final entry post will be coming in a little while (still waiting on the last few renders) and then you can consider this model entered.

    SCI-FI 3D EPISODE III ROOM/LOCATION MODELLING COMPETITION

    Entry by: Paul Robinson (robo_obi)

    Subject: Invisible Hand Elevator Lobby & Hallway Set

    Description: This set features only briefly in RotS but is used several times to represent different areas of The Invisble Hand. Below are several stills from the film featuring the set.

    [image=http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/700/ndvd0019mg.jpg] [image=http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1550/ndvd0024qw.jpg]
    [image=http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/3645/ndvd0002ut.jpg] [image=http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/619/ndvd0032vo.jpg]

    I have constructed the set the same as it was constructed for RotS with 2 main sections of hallway and the lobby itself. The actual set had no roof in either the hallway or the lobby to allow for lighting and I have done the same (although a makeshift roof for the hallway is included). Also I have made walls for both sides of the lobby with either being able to be hidden to allow for camera access (the left hand wall was not constructed on the actual set for this reason). The hallway can be extended indefinately by cloning the sections as far as required.

    Images: I have included final 1280x639 renders as well as wireframes capped from the 3dsmax viewports.

    Final Statistics:

    Poly count: 91,392
    File Size: 5,956 KB (5.81 MB)

    Final note: Oops...lol...there is one small mistake which I may or may not fix (well I will eventually). When I duplicated the doors I mirrored them...so two of them are facing the wrong way...it's not that noticeable...but I will fix it eventually./>/>

    while that'd be nice i do think the prize as it is is substantial enough...lol

    but if it were to be included i wouldn't mind

    This is really nice. Modelling is very clean. Now if you have time, maybe you can work on materials. I don't talk about textures, just adding reflection to the floor, some specularity...

    Good job

    thanks Dr Jones, Massassi, outrider, and DarthRicmu for the comments...

    and zoo VIP is basically just having our names be a different colour and getting a title (at least thats my understanding)

    Having your name in red doesn't make you a better modeler.

    Yea... making one red does not make one great... mmmm yea.
    Look at me.. judge me by my redness? I'm red and I suck.

    You'll have to talk to DVeditor? I think... he's the other mod here and would know more about such things. What do I know. I just showed up here one day and I was red. Probably only for mods BUT we can maybe look into titles like SCIFI 3D Contest-1 Winner 2006... maybe something
    like that they can do.

    zoo i don't think there'd be a need for any colours or titles or anything...the PC memberships should be sufficient methinks

    I don't know anything about such things. I usually go to a mod forum or support forum and ask questions all the time like... how can I add some links to our header, move threads, etc.

    Damn... another abbreviation. What is PC memberships?

    ok so i have a bit of a problem......

    i've started doing a lighting setup on the model and since its my first real time setting up semi-decent lighting its taking a little while.......but my problem is this:

    i set up the lights for the hallway (approx 5 lights per section, 10 in total) and it was all updating in the viewport fine...then when i went to light the lobby the lights were going in...and rendering fine......but the model in the viewport isn't updating as i move the lights around which makes it very hard to see what i'm doing......

    does anyone know why this might be?

    so i ended up lighting in the dark cos i couldn't work pout why it was being strange....but anyway i thought i'd just show where i was up to with it so i can get one last image in before the comp closes (as it is the 31st here in Oz and I'm going to honour the deadline)

    so here we go

    [image=http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/7476/0447fo.jpg]

    see nothing flash....my first real attempt at properly lighting something...
