Name Project: Invisible Hand Observation deck
    Name creator: Alexander (Ravenger) Immerzeel

i thought i could break the ice and go first with posting this
i'll be modeling the invisible hand (grievous's ship) observation deck for the SciFI3D challenge.
tho i probably wont be able to texture it considering i dont know how yet (that may change however)
ok so here's what i have so far.
    [image=http://img335.imageshack.us/img335/7278/invisiblehandobservationdeck5i.jpg]

tho i must admit the prizes do apeal to me i would rather have a competition between talented people here and lose than to win when only 1 or 2 people enter
good luck to the competition :)

feel free to comment or rip it apart as you see fit tho remember i'm still relativly new to the CG community :p (dont go easy on me)

EDIT: i almost forgot to post some of the refrence images here they are :

    Great choice.
I was kinda hoping someone would pick this one up.
It's a great starter model since most of the geometry is based on fairly regular shapes, but you'll find that there is a LOT of detail to replicate.

It's difficult to comment this early on in the process.
The number of faces around the arc of the stairs seems very low, for example, but maybe these are just placeholders for the moment.

Looking forward to seeing this develop.

Again, I'm totally agree on the "comparative" aspect of the challenge being very rewarding. I'm considering modeling a non-qualifying entry just to participate, even though I wouldn't be eligible for any prizes.

    Have fun!

note that some of the roundings arent round thats because i always optimize my models for smoothing

    Really looking cool Ravenger.
Might want to consider adding more lights to the renders or even go with a GI scheme to start bringing out the details you've been putting in.

Looking forward to seeing the details make thier way into that back wall. ;)

    Have fun!

    That's a good point.
Renders might look more impressive if you use a wide-angle lens setting for your camera. (low focal lenght/wide angle of view)

    Have fun.
