    When the Star Wars Hyperspace webcam became active it showed the Verandah stage build. This was the moment that I decided to make it in to a 3d model. So it has been finished from some time. But when the movie came out it showed that they changed the bacony, so I need to update the model, also I will update it, give it more detail, and add the building as well.

    I will post some WIP pictures soon.

    This was my first large model that I started 2 years ago. So there are still a lot of beginner mistakes in it.

    First the floor
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_01.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_02.jpg]
    Then I added the walls and seats
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_03.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_04.jpg]
    Then the building and the statues
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_05.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_06.jpg]
    The the maps
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv_07.jpg]

    The next pictures show the model as it is now.
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal01.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal02.jpg]
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal03.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal04.jpg]
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal05.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal06.jpg]
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal07.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/models/e3dbal08.jpg]

    I need to update this model, all most everywhere. I will add more detail and better lights, also I must update the maps.

    That model is really great. The amount of detail is huge!

    This is the one I saw long long time ago. And seeing some of your new stuff and the fact that you recognize the changes that could be made all over really tells me that you have come a long way. You're doing some really good work now.

    Ok, I had some time this weekend. First of all I want to pull this model apart, give it the right color (as can be seen in the movie, it is not yellow but white).
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/wip_pillars.jpg]
    I have started with the pillars, First two pillars show the pillars as they where. In the third I added the right amount of detail, and in the fourth the V shape can hardly be seen.
    But in the last when the colors are correct, you can cleary see the V shape.

    Ahhhhhh. Soooooo much better !!!!

    Really great job capturing the subtlety of the fluted detail on the pillars. In reference photos, they barely show up at all from a distance, but up close, they look like major details.

    Great work!

    I still can't see detail in the ref.. but what you've done is nice. It looks so much better with the extra details (lathing) on the columns. Just little touches like that all over will make a huge difference. I noticed the shapes etched on the body of the columns too. That was the only problem I had with your stuff long time ago... it was just too plain looking. Looked like low-rez game models. But now it's a lot better. This is the sorta material we would see in the SCIFI 3D WIP section.

    yeah, the first set of images he posted show the base and cap details better, but this new shot is a great illustraition of the body detail that was missing before.

    The railing and railing posts could use similar treatment, but references may be harder to find since these didn't exist on set.

    Really fun to watch this develop.
    Great work Jan.
    Have fun.

    Ok, had some time this weekend, so I made a new base floor of the Verandah. The old one had very little detail in it as you can see
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/wip_plane1.jpg]
    I made a new base floor and added the pillars on them as well. I just added the same color as the pillars on the floor for now
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/wip_plane2.jpg][image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/wip_plane3.jpg]
    Next up are the walls and the doors and the side balconies.

    Jan is pronounced by using the a-sound from the British 'ask'.
    ;)

    And it is 'Ik praat een beetje Nederlands' by the way, but you are really close! South Africa eh? [face_peace]

    Yep, It is like QuiGonDave stated. That is how Jan is pronounced. And "Ik praat heel goed Nederlands." Actualy, I come from a part of Holland where we take an other language as well. But lets nog get in to that.

    I have a bit of a problem with my model. I have generated doors in the back wall, but now what to make of the hall way in the center. Have a look at these two pictures.

    First here I what I have so far. Need to do a bit more work on the door's
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/wip_plane5.jpg]

    In the next picture you can see a bit of the center hallway. This is very clear.
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv06.jpg]

    But there is only one picture in the movie, or other showing the lenght of the hallway. But I cannot make much of it.
    [image=http://massassi.yavin4.com/max/3dpv07.jpg]

    Does anyone have a better picture, or does anyone have an idea how this hallway is setup?

    Regards,

    Jan Jacob
