Sigh, this whole posting already written stuff is making me detached to my work. This can't be good. If any of this sounds very confusing, probably cuz I skipped a scene, let me know.

And then we can kill DRL for spawning this whole strategy in the first place!

    Meanwhile...

Kynstar - Yes, we are nearing a climax for the Seperatist duo... I was hard pressed to kill Corum, but alas, the more you like a character, the more you know he/she must go before the attachment is too strong! Hehe, yes, Elle's a clever one... who does get the last laugh?

Keep askin' those questions, Anakin'sBaby! Speculation is so much fun :)

Hehe, BoG, I love keeping you on your toes!

    Thanks, Peagis!!

Yikes! Poor l_m_j!! I shall conjur Skywalker to come and resuscitate you!

Ah, yes, Pokey, I have reached the mass massacre section of the fic. Hehe, Palpy's actions should have some interesting ramifications later on...

    ANyways, more posties!

    ~*~*~*~

Unit C4-2 was not liking this at all.

When Count Dooku had first programmed them to treat Lord Sidious as an Enemy, it had taken all their patriotic fervor for the Droid Commanders to agree to defect. The new model of droids were programmed to think for themselves, using long-lasting, deep-imprinting memory, and treating Lord Sidious, programmed as a Seperatist, as a Republican was just illogical.

Now, as the battle between the Republic and the Separatists began to grow fierce, Seefor was starting to consider second thoughts. When the Outer Rim sieges began to fail, Dooku had voiced possible defeat, but had only entertained the notion as an embarrassing change of plans?Sidious, after all, would take care of them whether or not they succeeded. That was his deal. But where was Sidious now?

Count Dooku had moved the headquarters seven times, now, either for safety or pure mania, and had driven nearly all the Separatist leaders insane. Seefor, though, only dutifully exhibited forced patience.

    Until now.

Now, with news of a newly constructed Jedi force arriving, Seefor was feeling very worried indeed. His circuits tingled, and he knew that this time, he would not escape.

    ~*~*~*~

?Lock S-foils and prepare for ground attack.?

Anakin took a deep breath, and relaxed himself into the mercy of the Force. HE was back in battle, in the sieges again, and he needed to focus. He tried not to think of his should-be wingmate by his side, contradicting all his orders, making weird quirks?

Master hated flying. He had died doing what he loved most-climbing on the back of some giant alien nonsentient; something Anakin abhorred.

No. Now wasn?t the time for this. Purges his thoughts of Obi-wan. Forget the Council. Forget Palpatine. Forget? Padmé?

    He could never forget Padmé.

?Making final descent, Sir. Droid facilities within view.?

Anakin took a deep breath. ?Lock target and destroy,? he ordered. ?Hit what you can, but don?t double back if you miss some. Our main objective is still Dooku.?

Grievous, after all, had been blown away during target practice. He smiled. Trying to escape the cowardly way had finally proved to be the end of the Droid Commander.

As more and more bombs dropped, alarms went off, and droid ships started to come into view. As Anakin predicted, they were few and far between; this was a Leader?s Headquarters, not a battle zone, and meant to be kept hidden more than armed. Mustafar was also a planet filled with lava; what few docking areas there were left were volatile. Airborne, the Republic Task Force outnumbered the Separatists ten to one.

But shooting down starships and destroying bases was not what Anakin had come here fore. As soon as the shooting slowed down, he lowered his ship to the dock near not the largest building, but the one signaling most with the Force.

Dooku, unlike Sidious, still could not shield his Force presence. He stood out like a beacon, and this was no exception. Two steps into the large control room, and Anakin found himself face to face with the Sith

Oh dear... looks like Palpy is getting a taste of the 'poisoning' that the Jedi are getting. [face_devil] 'Bout bloody time he got a taste of his own medicine (well the kid's anyways)

Poor Dooku...underestimated the youth a lil and look what it gets ya!

But there was no serenity left in Anakin Skywalker. He struck, and struck hard. Both skilled warriors knew they were no match for each other, and with each coming blow they risked a little more here, a little more there.

Little by little, they lost a bit of humanity.

Count Dooku had once been a marvelous Jedi Knight. An exquisite fighter, a sought-for master. He had trained a powerful Knight, who had trained another, and had trained another?

?who now sought only to kill him.

Yet Dooku is not the one who changed. He, after all, fights for what he always believed in. Justice. Peace. Order. Efficiency.

Dooku had never loved like Anakin did. And so while Dooku fought only for life and for his dreams of the future, Anakin fought for love, fear, and unparalleled grief.

Anakin fought for Master Obi-wan. He fought for the dying Order. He fought for Padmé.

He fought for his unborn child.

Loved that bit! Well done! =D= (even if he died :_|) ;)

Well at least it appears Sids is feeling the effects of the potion...good! So Anakin is still going to wind up in the suit? Crud.

When is Anakin going to find out Padme is still alive? Hopefully around the same time Sids succumbs to the poison!

    ~*~*~*~

Miak?s hand shook. She cursed, wiped the errant streak of makeup away, and tried again. Gently. Pad here, tap there, dip across here.

    Almost there.

It?s amazing what genetics could do. Senator Amidala was her cousin from a generation above, almost twenty years older than her. But add a few monstrous dresses and inch-thick makeup, and Miak found herself almost her twin.

    Creepy.

A soft noise rattled in the room across the hall, and Miak quickly hid the makeup away. She reached in her pocket, extracted the pre-recorded data message, set it on her? her friend?s vanity, and turned to leave.

A quick glance out the window confirmed Miak?s suspicions?they were hovering near a no-fly zone in orbit to Coruscant. with the power shut off and the primitive cloaking device in place, the boat looked like a forgotten piece of garbage, floating among the hundreds of other space rocks, right in the face of danger.

That was the plan, or so Miak had realized the day before. It was another row with the woman who looked but didn?t act like her aunt, like the numerous ones they had, living together now for several weeks. It started simply enough?Miak had forgotten to clean the cooking bowls that evening, and the other woman had scolded her for being irresponsible.

Irresponsible? Who asked you? Miak had spoken her thoughts vehemently, accusing the former noble of being a? what was it? Oh, yes. A spoiled, suffocatingly snobbish dictator. There she was, laying on her divan, watching the holonet for what seemed like hours for some stupid special on some fight on Mustafar?the death of the Hero with No Fear, or something like that. Meanwhile, she wanted Miak to be slaving away in the kitchen? Yes, it was Miak?s turn to clean, but she would have done it like a good little girl if the other had not been so keen on rubbing it in her face.

Instead, Miak had cursed, and in the action of losing her temper, had knocked the cooking pot right out of her aunt?s hand and smashed it in two on the galley?s metal floor.

And Aunt Padmé, or what was left of her, had collapsed, kneeling over the pieces and sobbing uncontrollably.

Miak took a deep, steadying breath, and started to clean up her mess. ?I?m sorry,? she mumbled, barely audible over the wracking sobs.

Wracking sobs? Now that was just odd. It had started to frighten Miak just how out of control her aunt appeared. ?I didn?t mean to??

But she never finished her sentence, for she was interrupted by an inhuman cry. Something that sounded like?

    Who was Luke? And Leia?

I?m sorry. I abandoned you. The worst thing a mother can do?

And then she remembered. Back in the prison, when Corum and she had first seen her aunt again? she had been too frightened and shocked to notice or remember anything, but Corum, he had.

    A litter.

    ?Luke? and Leia? your children??

Aunt Padmé had had to cover her face to hide all the snot coming from her cries.

    ?Wh-what happened to them??

She shook her head. ?They?re his, now. I can?t??

    ?Can?t what??

She dipped her head, and Miak considered tentatively stroking her hair. Considered.

In the end, they were too far apart.

Or were they? A motherless child and a childless mother?

?Tell me where they are, Aunt Padmé.?

That night, Miak didn?t sleep. Her aunt slept, oh yes, she was snoring up a storm, leaning against the galley wall, exhausted from crying. But Miak was sitting in the pilot?s chair (the controls were locked, she realized dejectedly) whispering to no one.

    Why wouldn?t Aunt Padmé?s c

    And w/out further adieu:

    Power.

?Count Dooku said you were the Sith Lord, the one we?ve been looking for. The one responsible for everything.?

They found that Anakin Skywalker could speak through a respirator. Not very well, for sure, or very fast, but understandable enough. With upgrades, they say, they can not only improve the quality of his tone, but also add a more bass, stronger voice with timber. One that commanded authority.

    Power is the Dark Side.

    Palpatine had been delighted.

    ?Are you??

A pause. ?And if I am??

(his voice is hoarse. weak. you don?t think??)

    ?Did you kill her??

A smile. ?Search your feelings. You know I would never harm the ones you love. Padmé died by her treacherous handmaidens.?

(did he just cough? I thought he was invincible.)

?I have captured one and had her executed. Would you like to see her body??

Fear, anger, hatred? what were they compared to power?

    Silence. ?And Order 66??

?By a Jedi himself, Anakin. You saw so yourself.? Palpatine prepared to be berated with more questions, more suspicions.

    None came.

Emotions were tools. But power, no, power was the essence to the Dark Side.

(you don?t think he?s weakening, do you?)

Then, finally, in a raspy voice? ?Don?t call me Anakin. I don?t want them to know? what?s become of me.?

?And what would you like to be referred to as??

A pause. Then? ?Vader. I will be? Vader.?

?Lord Vader, then.? The Chancellor smiled, delighted to hear his home language put in such fitting use. ?A fitting title for a fitting man. You will be Vader, then. Father of the Galaxy.?

Darth Vader craved power. With a dying master, it was soon to come.

    ~*~*~*~

?There, that one. In the red.?

    ?Are you sure??

    ?Positive. I never mistake a politician?s face.?

Miak wanted desperately to wrinkle her nose. Here, in the depts. Of the city, were dust, vermin, and pee-smelling walls that reminded her all too well of the spice mine walls. It was a smell that she had hoped she left behind.

    Talk about circle of life.

?What?s she doing all the way down here, in the slums??

?Yeah, I thought she was rich. Former queen, or something like that. Where are her bodyguards? Handmaidens? Decoys??

Miak had never seen an adult cry the way Aunt Padmé had. It was ironic, how she, who had never known a loving mother, could hate one so much. Almost wrong. But then again, lots of things in the world were wrong.

    ?She looks? friendless. A wanderer.?

Take Corum, for instance. Worked his entire life to please his mother, making the one potion that could cure ?anything.? In the process, he developed perhaps the most lethal biological weapon in recent history.

    Talk about wrongness.

    ?Should someone talk to her??

?Does anyone dare to? She?s a high-ranking official!?

She knew she would never verbalize any friendship with that woman who had abandoned her ten years ago, when she needed her most. It wasn?t my fault, she had told herself repeatedly.

    ?I hear she?s wanted.?

    ?For what??

    ?Who knows.?

Yet somehow, she couldn?t turn from her quest. Dressed up like a doll, the perfect safety disguise in this world were the poor were prey and the rich had everything, she could easily evade annoying police and petty gangs. Dressed like Senator Amidala, walking like Senator Amidala, being Senator Amidala, Miak could do the one thing Senator Amidala needed to but could never do, considering her mental state.

Dressed as Senator Amidala, Miak could make a mother/child relationship work.

    ?Excuse me, Se

    Here it is!

    ~*~*~*~

Moteé flicked off the hologram, nearly too excited to concentrate. Nearly. Moteé never got that excited.

She had done what Palpatine wanted. She had placed the children in the local nursery care as ?orphans.? She then obtained the Emperor?s private permission to access all security cams in the palace at all times.

She hadn?t expected to catch anything. Sometimes, after all, the bait doesn?t cover the hook. This time it did.

When Padmé Amidala walked through the hallway, in the way to see Lord Vader, Moteé knew it was almost done.

Now, she strapped herself with two backup guns, readying to stake out her prey. The problem was Lord Vader himself if he really was that same mushy guy, he?d probably wouldn?t approve of Moteé killing her on the spot. But then again, she never approved of those two constantly kissing in front of her.

I guess this makes us even, Skywalker.

She grinned, reloading her gun. She waited. The door opened. Closed. Guards? footsteps clinked out.

If she knew Skywalker enough, it was to know that he?d never lose his wife so soon after getting her back. If she knew him enough, then she?d figure that his wife was still inside. Locked. Preserved.

But not for long, Moteé thought. Time to end this mission.

She clicked open the door, ready to aim?

?when she found herself thrown back, pinned to the wall.

    ?Where are the children, Hand??

    ~*~*~*~

Do you know what you?ve done?

    It was cold. Miak shivered.

As ordered, Miak had been escorted outside, to the city slums. In a corner of an underground tunnel, she had been stripped. They?d taken all her outer garments, placed them in a box.

    Then, they attacked her.

First, they ripped her undergarments away.

    Then, they ravaged her.

    You?re evil.

When they finished, they left her, unrobed, in the icy, murky sewer waters. Miak, with no choice but to bathe in the cold, could only shiver.

But ice was pain, and in the dark, pain was good. How else did you know if you were still alive?

Alive? No, not alive. Dead. Because of you.

The pain had started to lessen. When they first slammed her to the ground, she could feel sharp aches in her body, threatening and piercing. Then they?d shared her around?a young, pretty pleasure?and she started to feel the tinges of violation.

Children?s Act 2034 states that no one under the age of ten may be kept in a state penitentiary without absolute proof of guilt. We cannot violate their rights.

No, but you could abandon them.

I?m scared. Will you help me?

    No.

Now, abandoned, she felt nothing but cold. And even that was lessening?it wasn?t sharp anymore. No, more like a bath, run cold. Was the pain really lessening? Or was she simply going numb?

Murderer. Can you feel at all?

She smiled, remembering an old friend who once told her that freezing felt like a nice, warm bed.

?Hypothermia,? he had called it, as if big words meant anything to her.

She felt the warm liquid leave her legs. Was it blood? Was it hers? Who?s fault is it, this time?

Do you know what you?ve done? You really pulled the trigger, this time.

Cold? What was cold about it? for some reason, Miak felt perfectly warm. Grandmamma must have poured some boiling water into this bath. About time, too.

?Hypothermia,? he had said, ?is the best way to go.?

You killed them, Corum. You destroyed them all.

    And yet,
she thought, as her eyelids grew heavier, and darkness became a true blanket, he was such a good friend.

    I hope he?s well.

Hmm... since sequel might take a while (post college), I should probably explained a little of what happened here.

So I never really made Vader and Anakin two different people the way Obi-wan tried to classify them. I tried putting myself into Vader's shoes. As heir to the Empire, he's under a lot of pressure that he can't back away from. He set up a whole future for himself based on the idea that Padme was dead, but in reality, she wasn't. But even when Padme comes back, Anakin can't just bounce back to his old life and old dreams and be the perfect father and husband; still, he also isn't about to decapitate the woman he still loves but knows he can no longer have. (Reasons for that will be delved into in the sequel.)

So what can Anakin/Vader do at this point? Join Padme? Probably not. Padme join Anakin? Also probably not. So I compromised: Vader gave Padme the family she desperatly wanted, and took the Empire Palpy desperatly wanted him to have, pleasing everyone but himself.

Hmm... is that more understandable or more confusing? Hehe, probably the latter... which is good! The solution should never be clear... that'd be boring!

Anyways, any more questions or interesting ideas, please post! I tried very hard not to resolve anything completely.
