PT Controversial thread: Was Jar Jar the prequels HanSolo?

My Han and Chewie examples work better for your point than Jar Jar ever did imo.

 

To be honest, the Chewie "Tarzan" swing doesn't do a lot for me. I'll join you on the Han example, though.

I also like my out-and-out comedy characters. Or characters, at the least, with more of an innocent, child-like essence.

Artoo, Threepio, Yoda, the Jawas, the Ewoks, and Yoda (for a second time) when he acts crazy in TESB....... Jar Jar joins a rich pantheon.

That's my opinion, anyway.

While I understand the OP's mention of Solo originally being a lizardy alien, Jar Jar was more akin to the Ewoks and 3PO in being the little kid's character and comedy relief.

Like others have said Han Solo, the Gungan goofball is not.

 

Han Solo was cool. I would say Jar-Jar is more of a Threepio.

 

IIRC According to Lucas, the character of Han Solo was designed to be the cool rogue that audience viewers wish they could be.

I haven't seen anyone who wished they could be as cool as Jar Jar.

If anything, his clumsy antics make him most like C3-PO

 

Han? Nah, but Chewy? Yea...when I first saw Jar Jar in TPM, i instantly thought of Chewy from ROTJ. He was the only alien along for the ride as Chewy was. Even though we see Nute Gunray first. Jar Jar is the first alien fans get to know. Han to me is his own guy, if their was a Han in the PT it would be Jango Fett.

 

Jar Jar was supposed to be a bounty hunter in the original script of TPM that would betray the jedi.

I wish they had done it this way because then the hate for the PT would be cut in half.
