Cooking: How do you follow recipes?

I improvise and like to make believe that I am on Iron Chef

 

My improvosation depends on how well I know what I'm cooking

 

I choose other because sometimes, i'll follow the directions completely, and other times, i'll make things up as I go along. Sometimes, i'll open one of the cookbooks i have around, find something I never cooked before, then i'll make it after getting the ingredients.

 

Methods vary for me - if I'm making something simple like cookies I like to experiment, but if it's something more involved I like to try it the recommended way first.

 

I chose other, I dont really follow recipes exactly the only time that I do and you should is when making desserts as they tend to pretty precise.

I follow a recipe realise half the ingredients are missing and taking some sunstitue. and realising that i cook them wrong becasue i cant cook anyway

 

Like some people, it depends. If it is for baking pastries, cookies, cakes, and such, I follow it exactly. If it is cooking entrees or side dishes then I will improvise if I don't have what I need or if I prefer a spice over another...

 

It depends. For some of the dishes I know, I don't need a recipe and measure the ingredients "by eye". For some I need to look up the exact weigths, and when I'm cooking something I've never done before, naturally I need a recipe. But sometimes I just experiment.

 

For cakes and etc, I would follow a recipe exactly (except I love adding cinnamon to things). But for a normal food dish, I would follow the recipe one night, get bored with it the next time and add whatever I can find to it. So I went with I improvise based only on what is in your fridge and cupboards. 'Cause I don't get to fancy.

To the letter. If I change something I might upset a delicate balance that my feeble brain has no comprehension of.

 

I follow it pretty closely the first time I use a recipe, though I might adjust amounts of seasonings a bit here and there, or make small substitutions that don't actually affect how it turns out (i.e. using vanilla flavor instead of anise flavor.) If the first time works, then I experiment more.

I'm all over the place. I season meats and vegetables based on "feel", if you will. When trying something new, usually I'll grab two or three recipes and pick out what I like best out of each, and maybe add in my own little something and come up with my own recipe.

When baking breads or desserts, you have to be more exact so those are best to follow the recipe to the T.

Regardless, no matter what I cook, I try to be disticntive, and try to add my own touch to make it my own.

I don't cook... asking me to cook is a recipe for disaster...
