Coolest Video Game Villain

(without a Star Wars bias, hopefully )


I would nominate Kain from Legacy of Kain. At the moment, I can't think of any other villain who encompassed such a range of purpose. Villain to some, hero to others. He was wicked, ruthless, and conniving, but there were times when he seemed to have heart, too.

His final encounters with Raziel, for instance, seem to convey sympathy and reluctance, if I recall correctly.

I vote for DeSann...among others.

 

Why? He seemed like such a one-dimensional, cookie-cutter bad guy.

 

The Nameless One is by far the coolest and greatest villain ever in any video game. Bar none, no contest, lock the doors and throw away the key, he's the winner. Torment's interface may have aged poorly, but the plot is still the greatest ever in any video game. Nothing in any video game tops the final confrontation in Torment.

 

I dunno, I just liked him as a villain.

Oh, G-Man. Who are you? What are you? Why do keep manipulating the events of the world via Gordan Freeman? What have you done with Adrian Shepherd? Did you get that bitching suit on Earth? So many questions. So few answers. Such freaking cool villain. Or is he...?

 

Is Planescape: Torment better than Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights?

The plot itself is better, so is the dialog. However, the Infinity engine has held up more poorly than it has in Baldur's Gate.

The runner up is dysentery.

 

GlaDOS: She definitely cracked me up, so it's hard to pin her down as a serious villain.

The G-Man: Hmm, 10 years after HL and we don't know what the hell he exactly is or does, but labeling him (or it?) as villain seems inaccurate.

I'll have to five my vote to Metal Gear's Revolver Ocelot. I don't know, the classic gunslinger aspect of him appealed to me. Close on his heels is Psycho-Mantis. Tell me if hiss reading your memory card contents didn't freak you out?

While this may not be the coolest villain, it certainly is the most enduring.
