Love the detail and weathering!
Thank you. If you look through the album, you can see that it's actually layer reversed, with the white "top" coat actually being the bottom coat and the drown/black/dirt being between the white and the metal. The white is the only rattle can, everything else is Apple craft paint. It can be a pain to do, since each layer gets sanded to get the scuffed, peeled look, but this way if I sand too much I just have to toss a bit more on with a paint brush and wait an hour or so and have at it again.
This 3P0 costume will get me into the Rebel Legion right?
Think my brother can get into the 501st too. Imps wore thermos with black electrical tape right?
Fearfick!! I meant to respond to this... became distracted, thought I had hit "send", but apparently I did not! Yes!! I seen this and thought,"JAMMIES as C3PO"... JAMMIES.... he's in his Jammies!!!! LOL!!! This is epic!
you did respond to it. you responded to this thread in the canon debate thread. I have no idea how you managed that.
"THIS" is why you guys are the best!
I know my Twistee, I wanted to make sure he seen it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I'm sure that's true...from a certain point of view.
hey, it's your lie, tell it your way
Presenting my newest costume...the Rebel Pilot/Starfighter Command Dress uniform. Perfect for those diplomatic missions the pilot dress uniform is sprinkled throughout the Rogue Squadron books and comics...there's even an action figure.
I had commissioned someone with experience making these on the Rebel Legion boards but they let me down so a seamstress that I've used in the past gave it a shot and did pretty well for her first time I think. This one probably won't get a lot of use because it is pretty obscure but it's neat having a costume only a few other people have.
Mika, that is simply SWEET! You look awesome in anything you wear.. I'm so jealous!
Here are some pics of my winter project...
Very cool, Kepare. I like the hilt and that it's a white saber. Is that the final color or are you changing it?
I'm keeping it white. Next time I go to Evansville to visit the parents I'll be swiping some old light filter swatch books from my mom. She's a theatre professor and has a few that are no longer accurate, so I'll be able to change the color. White or a pale, pale gold will be the final color.
ok since I am moving to an actual house soon (I hope), I will be trying to get into vacuforming here soon (if the wife will allow of course lol), I want to try to make ARC trooper armor or the ever popular Mando armor (Walon Vau in particular.. like I said before, a fan of Karen Traviss lol)if I can. I will be more than happy to accept any instruction/advice people have to give on this since I have NEVER done anything like this before. I would prefer to just buy the costume out right but at least this way, I don't have to spend an exorbitant amount of money, and wait forever for people to send me a costume, when I don't even know if they will send it to me or just pocket my money lol.
Pretty ambitious. More work than I'd be willing to do. Here's a good primer on vacu-forming...
Remember you don't need a vacu form table for mando armor. Dar posted a nice tutorial a couple of pages up on using trash cans. There's also one here...
I would start simple for your first costume then work up to an RC. Once you're in "the community" you'll know who's reliable and who's not.
thx mika... that was a BIG help... I think ive pretty much decided to make the mando armor (Walon Vau) as my first and main set... I will probably got thru "sets" until I am happy with it, but it will be fun making it as well.
This is my latest costume, the Imperial Officer, but I can?t take any credit for it except the work I did earning a paycheck to pay for it. This is the Imperial Officer costume (black/Death Star Officer) offered by Museum Replicas. Getting it was a pretty frustrating experience but I?m happy with the way it turned out in the end. I first pre-ordered this thinking it would be my entry costume to the 501st but it took so long to be shipped I just went ahead and started work on the Imperial Crew costume (see above previous entry) which is the costume I joined the 501st under. I?m glad I did because now I have the base costume if I ever want to go for Tie Pilot (which I do).
Not only did the Imperial Officer take a long time to arrive initially, but the medium size I had ordered based on the size chart was too small. And they sent me the wrong color cap (green instead of black). So I had to send it back for exchange which took more time. But I?m happy with what I eventually got. It fit me pretty well out of the box with hardly any alterations needed. It?s a pretty heavy weight material which is good for sturdiness but may get kinda hot. This may be a cold weather troop costume. I haven?t actually trooped in it yet but I?m looking forward to it. If you?re interested a more detailed review of the MR Imperial Officer costume can be found here?
Too bad you had to go through all that hassle, but it really is a great costume!
