This day for Qui-Gon was the second worst day in his life. The first had been the knowledge of Xani?s death. Now he stood in front of the pyre in the twilight of evening and watched the flames lick up, over, and into the sarcophagus. The engulfing flames staked claim of Xani?s body for what Jinn hoped would be a journey to eternal peace for his former apprentice, Xanatos Crion.

Little thought had been given about the boy Xani seemed so close too. Qui hadn?t had the time. He had left a message on Telos if anyone were to see him that he or the Jedi order was to be contacted but had no other dealings with them. Master Yoda contacted the Argricorps and would know later where he was if it was documented. Of course there was a chance the child wasn?t taken by anyone and just ran away. Though Jinn doubted that. Xanatos had seemed so certain Obi?s reasonability and duty held him there to begin with and not the edicts of the Agricorps director.

Bruck Chun left as soon as the memorial service was over. Two of his friends escorted the supposedly bereft padawan. Yea, sure they escorted him right to the their game favorite room, in the city. He had no intention of going back home to the syrupy misery and remembrance of Xanatos Crion. That would have meant he acted in a accordance to what a Jedi apprentice should act when his master was dealing with a death of someone he cared about.

The last thing Bruck wanted to do was sit and let Qui-Gon tear-sling and bemoan his misery on him. No, the game room was the best option. Later he could tell Qui-Gon he had been in the gardens in quiet reflections of what had happened to poor little Xani.

Got what he deserved if you ask me. He was not even loyal enough to my master, his master to stay in the Jedi. Then of course there is little Obi who was pushed out of the Jedi. Kind of ironic. I hope Master Jinn never finds out where ?Oafy-Wan? went or was taken too.

Master Mace sat in Jinn?s common room after all their friends left their condolences and several baked dishes, as if Jinn would ever find his appetite again. Jinn under Mace?s demand tried to rest in his bedroom, but so many things rolled through his mind. Memories of Xani. Memories of who was ordered the murder of Xanatos, and memories of the little boy finally seeped through his mind. He found it easier to worry about Obi-Wan because he didn?t care for him as he did Xani or even Bruck. Qui-Gon sat up and looked around. He went over to a jewelry box and pulled the cut braid of Xanatos Crion.

The one major memento of Xani?s training, his padawan braid. What made it a padawan braid and not an initiate's, was the plaiting of the master?s own hair intertwined with his padawans as a symbol of a bond joined with just as much unity as their hair plaited together was meant to symbolize.

Jinn pulled from his pocket another braid. Not as long as the black silken one. This one, red, brown, with blonde, more dried and courser hair was the braid of Obi-Wan Kenboi. No one had wanted it when it was cut. It didn?t even have the intermingling of his masters hair. Impossible since Obi-Wan was never granted a master. He had been put out of the Jedi, after being permitted to grow the initiate's braid but before a master could officially plait it.

Xani must have felt some kinship for the former Jedi or else why did he keep Obi?s braid. Of course an initiate's braid without the master?s hair woven in doesn?t hold as much significance, yet something was there. Not for the boy?s sake, but for Xani?s, I will at least continue to search for him. It will give me focus to get through the days necessary to live through my loss. I will ask to be taken out of the mission?s rotation and Bruck and I will search for him.

Qui-Gon looked up to see his former master sitting on his edge of his bed.

?Oh Master Yoda, so sorry. I did not even feel your presence let alone hear you come in.?

?Not wise it is for a Jedi, let their guard down, dead one day you will be.?

?I hardly think I will be dead from a *snea

No kidding Red Jedi!!!! I wish Yoda would just tell him the truth, though I imagine Qui-Gon will be in deep denile for a while, we all know how dense he can be (not to mention self-centered).

You are the best ewen!!!!! I look forward to your daily posts on one of your stories or the other!!!!!

    a. Yoda still speaks in riddles.

    b. Qui can't see the nose right in front of his face. HOW MANY HINTS DO YOU NEED MASTER JINN!!!!!!

    c. Good ole, Palpy rears his evil head.

Well Jinn, you need to: 1) keep your strength up, eat some of that food leftover from the funeral. 2) Find Obi-wan NOW!!!!

Master Jinn waited in the main anteroom to the senate offices. He had spoken with his friend Fini Valorum and now?.Now he had spent the last hour waiting for an audience with Senator Palpatine. He knew the senator probably wondered why Jinn, who made it a point of not having anything to do with Palpy?, would ask for an appointment to see him now.

He must think it has something to do with the boy especially since the circumstance of Obi-Wan transferal from Xani?s care to Palpatine?s care?. Way to abruptly did it come about.

The door to Papatine?s office finally opened and the senator himself walked out.
He walked straight to Qui-Gon with the silliest grin on his face. At least the Jedi master thought that as he walked toward him and extended his hand.

?Master Jinn I must say when I saw your name on my list of visitors today, I was indeed surprised. What can I attribute your surprise visit too??

?Hardly a surprise. I did book an appointment to see you. I thought you would assume I would come here. I mean, you did rush my former apprentice?s *boy* off Telos faster than anyone knew of his demise. Reason for that? Another question I have for you, how did you know Xani would meet his death? He had not returned to his home. He was in the middle of a battle at the time you went to his home and stole the boy.?

?I would hardly say I *stole* Obi-Wan. I saw that it might be necessary to take the boy to safety. Only later when I went to make an attempt to return him did I find out about your former apprentice and his battle inflicted wound that proved fatal. Before I say more I do want to offer my condolences; dear young man that he was. He had such high hopes for his political future. Shame he was cut down so young in his life.

Qui-Gon had his doubts that Palpatine intended the words to be sincere.

?I must take exception to your assessment of Xanatos Crion. His political career was prompted only do his concern for his people of Telos. He was loyal to them. I don?t think political gain was ever in his thoughts, except that with it would come help for his people. He personally wanted to see to that. Now at least Sarran is gone. We can only hope a leader is put in with the same pure concern for the Telsoain people as my apprentice had.?

He would continue to defend Xani, no matter how rude this man was toward him.

?What exactly is your problem., Master Jinn? I went to see that the boy?s care was secured and now?Now he has a secure home where he will remain until he is twenty years old. I would think you would appreciate the efforts I have gone too. Listen if you are so concerned about Xani?s indentured servant why not stop by my home for last-meal at your convenience. I understand you have your own little slave in the form of an apprentice. What is his name again. Aya? Bruck Chun, Bring him along. ?

Qui-Gon had never been invited to the home of Senator Palpatine. Neither had Master Yoda for that matter. While they were suppose to be on the same side for the good of the Coruscant people, Palpatine had a way of eliciting the worst out of the two masters, mainly because Yoda had passed his distrust of Palpatine to Master Jinn and not without good reasons.

?There is no need to be crass to me Senator Palpatine. I know we have not been classified as friends down through the years., however I think you will find that I can be handily adaptable to work with anyone, yourself included. I don?t own a *slave*. I have an apprentice which I train to knighthood within the Jedi order.?

?Well then let us call Obi-Wan my apprentice, instead of a slave shall we? The title does have a sound of class to it, although I rather think its equally as deceptive as the word *slave*. Just a more dignified sounding title for both of the young men under our supervision and training.. When he is finished with his time here, he will be able to serve in any noble home available. Sad fate for someone of Kenobi?s potential wouldn?t you say? That was the Jedi?s doing not mine. I just try to provide a boy a home whe

Master Jinn had cunningly seen part of the confrontation between Palpatine and Obi-Wan. He knew the boy must be under a lot of stress to come off as the well behaved servant who doted on the generous master, his master, now Palpatine.

That is a burden not easily carried by anyone let alone a child who just recently lost his best friend and in a sense his way of life; his new home.

In some ways Jinn felt more empathy for Obi-Wan over losing Xanatos, than for even himself. Xani was his last hope, his friend his mentor, and as Xani said himself, one day his equal.

Qui-Gon stood behind Obi-Wan and at first did not announce his arrival. The boy seemed to be mentally lamenting on something and Jinn did not wish to interrupt his thoughts. The Master actually thought he heard a soft moan escape Obi before he quickly turned around to face Jinn.

?Enjoy sneaking up on others Master Jinn??

?I did not try to sneak. I assumed you to be deep in thought and I had no wish to interrupt you.?

?What matter of great importance would a ?slave? have to think about Master Jinn Certainly not something that your presence should not supercede. I would think your presence alone would command immediate attention.?

Qui-Gon could not help but notice when Obi said the word ?slave? in reference to him now under Palpatine, he seemed to wince as one would in pain. In reality Obi grimaced because of the agony the thought of living with the senator brought. His cruel situation seemed so finite and hopeless. Always before the word elicited a wiry smile when he referred to himself as being Xani?s *slave*. The Jedi master got the definite feeling Obi-Wan was not nearly as happy living under the senator?s guidelines nor would he ever be.

?Listen Kenobi, I did not come here to argue with you.?

?Then why Master, did you come here, at all. Oh to offer condolences for the loss of my friend, my only friend. Don?t bother. I don?t need your pity or concern for neither would be believed sincere, least of all by me.?

?What is wrong with you child? Yes I came to see if you were alright and if it makes you feel better it was because of Xanatos and not you. ?

Jinn forgot his real reasons for being there. He knew now some kind of abuse was going on .. he just didn?t seem to care?. That is?. until he looked into those woefully sad eyes of Obi-Wan Kenobi again. The eyes that were familiar yet unfamiliar.

?Good because I don?t need your concern. Xani is dead and will know nothing of what transpires between you and I now. Let it go. You don?t have to *concern* yourself. Not that you ever have.. Concern for others, I mean. If you had you wouldn?t have???

The voice of the now upset boy broke with raw emotions, his dimpled chin quivered as his words trailed off. He left the sentence unfinished and Jinn with a lot of questions. One question was what did Obi-Wan plan to say?

?Tell me Obi. I get the feeling you think in someway I have wronged you. I never knew you before Xani?s introduction to do harm to you. I only want to try to get you out of this arrangement you are in.?

Obi regained some semblance of composure but the trembling of his voice was still evident as he spoke again.

?I assure you Palpatine will not relinquish his hold on me. The Argricorps? director, not the Jedi have say so of my future. So you see I am here? to stay ?

?Is *here* where you want to be? Is the senator kind to you??

? I am an indentured servant Master Jinn. I do not get a *chose* where I *want* to be. As for the Senator and his treatment of me, you know him better than I . What do you think??

Obi-Wan shot the big master a look that left no doubt in Jinn?s mind of the sarcasm of his words. Of course Paplatine was far from kind to the child. Why else would Obi tremble and shake in fear at the mention of Senator Palpatine and the the treatment Obi-Wan recieved from him?

?Well I suppose I do know him better than you now that I have lived under his roof, under his rules, and under his total manipulitive control. Everyth
