    A TIE fighter could even fly by and catch him.

    Does he always give off that much energy and make those exploding sounds after being picked up and rescued by a TIE? :p

    As for him surviving the fall... well, I think the explosion pretty much tells us he's dead. Unless he was just passing gas or something. ;)

    Perhaps the shaft led to Palpy's secret getaway "car", which allowed him to escape the Death Star. Of course, I would hope that he knows how to pilot the thing. ;)
