This belongs in the changes thread. But why would Lucas bother? Somehow Luke got scarred up, who cares? Maybe it was the Wampa, or the fall from Cloud City, or God forbid...something we never saw onscreen.

Why would he want to? It plays a role in the story when the Wampa creature ambushes him and drags him and his Tauntaun to its cave on Hoth. Also, I believe Mark Hamill had gotten that scar in some sort of Motorcycle accident, before filming TESB but after ANH launched in theaters.

Yeah he had a accident which is why he had a scar.

    It was a car accident, and why does it matter that he had afew scars, and why would he fix it? Luke was attacked by a Wampa , and the scars are a result of that. The Galaxy is a dangerous place Luke would have a few scars to show for his adventures. 8-}

Car accident, to be precise. Not long after he made ANH.

Lucas himself has addressed the issue in the commentary - yes, they realized that Mark looked different, but they assumed since he'd been in a war for three years, fans would just assume that he'd picked up some injuries in the fight against the empire. Additionally, it also worked out as Luke gets face-owned by an ice monkey within the first five minutes of ESB.

I think it would have been kinda stupid to change that. Although it was from a car smash, I always thought it added to his character...after all, the Rebels were on the run...his life was constantly in danger. He would have gotten into a scrape or two...It adds a certain charm to his character.

Plus it does a little age to Luke cause once you get to ROTJ, he has changed in some way.

Lucas is too busy thinking of ways to insert Jar Jar in ESB.

    Dear God NO!

    **commits seppuku**

Anyways, the rigours of life in an unsafe galaxy. Besides, if we still had a babyface after three years of war, it isn't too realistic. :p

GL should fix his own face. Have you noticed that he has the world's biggest double chin?

There's no need to answer that question. If you have eyes and you have seen GL, then you have seen his one regular chin and one extra-large chin.

All that money, he lives in California, so what's stopping him?

Lucas shouldn't fix anything like that. Besides Luke looks like his been through a war instead of siting home all day.

Always with the chin! Why?, Why? do they have to say such mean spirited , unconstructive things [face_shame_on_you]?

Considering that the arc of this saga is about war, I'd think the scars, (although an ironic example of life immitating art) add to the character.

Lets not forget the scars that Anakin got between Ep2 and Ep3.

    It works. Why change it?

    *shrugs*

Well, Leia takes after her father.

And Padme does remind me of Luke in the 'innocence' range...

It makes Luke more like a Jedi "padawan" in training.

It was cool tha GL left the scars, kind of how Spielberg used Harrison Ford's chin scar as an injury by a wip from a young Indiana Jones (The Last Crusade)

Although Luke's appearance looks different by the time he's in ROTJ.
There's only one scene where he still looks like the ANH Luke. When He's on the deck of the Jabba ship and has his lightsaber on and tells Leia with the cannon: "Point it at the deck"...just an observation.

The scarring on Luke's face, esp. in the Bacta Tank scene in ESB, is a nice parallel to Anakin's face scars in ep3.

Thanks for the info about Mark Hamill's face. I was wondering what happened, because he just looked different.
