I have been attempting to read 'The Courtship of Princess Leia' for a few months now. I kept getting distracted by the Jedi academy trilogy and then reading some more of the NJO. But honestly I just haven't got into it yet. I'm just starting chapter 6 and I'm waiting for it to grab me. My question is...will it?

Not unless you're obessed with Nightsisters and Kwi.

Once you get to Dathomir it really picks up. I love the book, and even I think that the first few chapters are really slow.
The Kwa aren't even mentioned in Courtship, if I recall correctly.

Great! Thanks, I'm determined not to let anything else distract me, even the counsellor droid thing xD

The Kwi are apparently the degenerated descendents of the Kwa, and apparently first appeared in TCoPL. I wouldn't remember, its been so long since I read it, and it hasn't stuck with me like most of the rest of the Bantam run.

Unless you really enjoy love triangles, and can buy into both the idea that Mon Mothma would try to push Leia into an arranged marriage and that Leia would consider leaving Han for Isolder...no.

The beginning is indeed very boring and out-of-character. But I really liked the Dathomir story, it was a very nice adventure.

Although I'd love if the Zsinj story arc was resolved in Solo Command rather than CoPL, but of course it was a prequel to an existing ending.

Poor Zsinj. It would have been neat had Allston wrote a novel paralleling the events of Courtship from an alternate perspective focusing on Zsinj. It would have been a more suitable ending for such a flamboyant character.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through now and I'm definitely into it :) I was going to aim for half way tonight but I'm knackered.

Although Luke gets an awesome line, something to the effect of, "If you don't remove your hands from this man, I'll remove them from you."

Ah best line still has to be

Han Solo - "Believe me, buddy, if I were you, I'd go right up there and ask her if she wants to ride on my rancor."

    Glad you're liking it.

I feel like I should re-read it soon. I am in the midst of a Tom Clancy binge and then I have Scott Adams' new book below that on my stack... Might have to slip Courtship in there to get my Witches fix.

"Do you know how many bones are in the human body? Well, triple that number and you'll know how many bones you'll have when I'm done with you."

Out of curiosity, do you prefer the (good) Witches or the Nightsisters at this point?

I am fascinated by the Witches. I got Courtship because I'd read of them on Wookiepedia before. I, like you, was disappointed by the start of the book. Fortunately, I did love the Dathomir portion of the book once the story got there.

This book holds... the worst and the best about the Bantams. All the character's are OOC, the writing is pretty terrible - but there's an adventurous spirit and naivity about it that doesn't necesarily catch you, but that you can't but appreciate once you've struggled through it.

I still hold the opinion it should be made a comic. To please the male audience - and to spare us from the poor efforts of psycology on the pages :p
