While looking at the new photos for Celebration 3 I found this picture for the cover of the New Essential Chronology. I think it looks great and am pleased to see that it'll cover all of the PT and NJO.

Awful cover, though I have absolute faith that the book will be terrific.

The all-villain cover is odd, but it's the same style as the other new essential guides so I guess that's to be expected.

Is it just going to be added upon from the last one or is everything going to be re-wrote? I would probaly enjoy it more if everything was re-wrote, but that's just me.

And no one's complaining yet about the fact that KJA's on the cover?

Judging from Dan Wallace's posts in his Authors forum thread, pretty much everything has been rewritten.

Bloody hell. Figures they'd put something like this out at Celebration before I even get there...good call, Hydra.

Text by Daniel Wallace, with Kevin J. Anderson.

[face_plain] Please tell me this is some type of demented joke.

And why did this get bumped ahead of Planets and Moons and Droids? Personally I found the original Essential Chronology worthless. But maybe this one will have some new stuff. Like the year Jango Fett's family was killed.

The KJA thing will more than likely be just remnants of the original text. The new stuff was a Wallace solo-effort, I'm sure.

Because there won't be a New Essential Guide for Planets since Coruscant & the Core Worlds and Geonosis & the Outer Rim sort of serve the same role.

We might still see a Droids one though.

Chronology porbably came first so that the full ancient-NJO era can be made available to give people reference or an introduction for the new series coming out, like Legacy.

Also so they can get in on ROTS hype too- especially since the current TEC is missing AOTC, the entire Clone Wars and the entire NJO.

Woa! Cool!! The EC was one of the BEST books ever! It's a really great guide to fill you in on the whole storyline of Star Wars(both EU & Movies)... also a great book for people like me who dont have the comics or are missing(or too lazy to read) certain books... :)

I'm really looking forward to this one.

Mr Wallace wrote, in his A&A thread -

<<The old Chron was around 75,000 words; the new manuscript clocks in at 105,000 words. So that's a general sense of the increased size/page count. But there's even more info than that packed into the book, since I did some significant edits to the old material (mostly cutting out redundancies) in order to pack in more new stuff. I'd guess that at least 2/3 of the material is entirely, never-before-seen new.
    >>

2/3 New sounds great. Personally though I think there's easily enough info for two volumes of TEC. The first covering all the info up to ANH. The second from ANH up to LotF era.

Heck, there's enough Clone Wars material to justify a whole volume!

The thing I'm most interested in though is the new illustrations. The last EC showed us lots of new pictures of things that we hadn't seen before - Ponc Gavrisom, K-Wings, Bob the Anx. I hope that the new full colour illustrations will be just as diverse.

Does anyone know anything about the artist?

That's pretty much it -- Kevin is busy with his own projects and didn't take an active role this time around, but some of the material he wrote for the first edition remains in the NEC.

I wonder if the new all-colour illustrations will be CG as with the other New EGs? Personally, I'd like to see images in a similar style to the original - but coloured, of course. Some of the CG images in the New Tech guide were a little...well, crap, basically.

I talked with Dan Wallace, and some of the Del Rey people, and they said that this one is the best EG yet.
